afrakes Posted February 6, 2016 Report Posted February 6, 2016 I've asked this before, been told to use the 70 mm dies. But when I do and fully crimp these baby's my xs power wire is easily pulled out of the crimp with about 30ish lbs of pressure applied. So I tried using the 50 mm dies, and this happens: Hard to see from the pic but the "wings" that this crimp left are almost 1/2" long. But the wire ain't coming out of this crimp. Will this crimp cause any issues? Btw this is just a test crimp, not going to be used at all. ShadeTreeMechanic Posted February 6, 2016 Report Posted February 6, 2016 Your terminal is too big for your wire. I did this too when I first got my crimper. When you put the wire in it should barely fit as in the first time you put it in you say to yourself "its not going to fit" then you make all the strands really straight and try a few more times and then you get it. It has to completely fill up the terminal before crimping in order to make a gas tight seal. Otherwise you will not achieve a proper cold weld and will do just as well to crimp it with a hammer. I will see if I can find a picture. 91 C350 Centurion conversion ( Four Door One Ton Bronco) 250A Alternator (Second Alternator Coming Soon) G65 AGM Up Front / Two G31 AGM in Back Pioneer 80PRS CT Sounds AT125.2 / CT Sounds 6.5 Strato Pro component Front Stage CT Sounds AT125.2 / Lanzar Pro 8" coax w/compression horn tweeter Rear Fill FSD 5000D 1/2 ohm (SoundQubed 7k Coming Soon) Two HDS315 Four Qubes Each 34hz (Two HDC3.118 and New Box Coming Soon)
Amart88 Posted February 6, 2016 Report Posted February 6, 2016 I use 50 normally. But just today on the SHCA oversized lugs I used the 70's. My 2005 s10 blazer build. 4 zcon 18's walled.

I couldn't fit the wire into the lug until i twisted the shit out of the copper strands, at that point it was loose though. Who should I get new lugs from?? Jessica Posted February 6, 2016 Report Posted February 6, 2016 stop using metric crimper dies on sae lugs. also, how many tons is your crimper, my 12 ton could never do that but my 16 ton just does not stop. i could just keep sticking smaller dies in until i make a wormhole. ShadeTreeMechanic Posted February 6, 2016 Report Posted February 6, 2016 I'm not sure about car audio brands. I use welding cable and copper lugs that are nickel plated for corrosion resistance. The lugs I use are standard for welding and battery cables. Do a search on ebay for 1/0 lugs. If I twist the strands then they will not go in. They have to be really straight and just stripped. Maybe the SHCA are sized for their cable? If you are using XS cable then maybe XS lugs will fit better? 91 C350 Centurion conversion ( Four Door One Ton Bronco) 250A Alternator (Second Alternator Coming Soon) G65 AGM Up Front / Two G31 AGM in Back Pioneer 80PRS CT Sounds AT125.2 / CT Sounds 6.5 Strato Pro component Front Stage CT Sounds AT125.2 / Lanzar Pro 8" coax w/compression horn tweeter Rear Fill FSD 5000D 1/2 ohm (SoundQubed 7k Coming Soon) Two HDS315 Four Qubes Each 34hz (Two HDC3.118 and New Box Coming Soon)

It's a 16 ton, got a hell of a deal on it, but was metric. I'm going to see if I can make it work by getting a good hold with the 70 mm and then crimping until tight with the 50's. If that doesn't work I will try to buy some different lugs. Think the ones from knukonceptz would work better?
