How To: Put a proper Crimp on Larger Wire

Recommended Posts

Yeah when I type on 16 ton hydraulic crimper on eBay all that comes up is a 39.99 unbranded deal. I don't know anything about crimpers.

I have that exact one. It's been working fine for me.

Yeah they probably wouldn't last forever around a shop or what not, but it works for me.

If you get wings when you crimp, then your lugs are too big. Imho I have the same crimper.

Possible. I do know two things, I'm happy with the end result and I don't waste material.

Can't really argue when it turns everything into one solid pice when it's all said and done. IMHO.

I'm not sure about that. I didn't have a lot of an edge but I had the SHCA lugs and terminals matching the wire with a little bit of edges.
I'm no expert, but how can you not get some sort of wing, fin, edge, whatever if we're using a hexagon shaped die to squeeze a round object.

Maybe because these crimpers are cheap and there's a big difference in size between one die and the next. Fuck if I know.

I never get the little wings on em, but then again maybe it isn't as tight of a crimp. From what I've seen either way works so long as you don't go too small on the dies.

Cut one open and see.
