300blk
This just came in today. I also ordered an XS Power D4800. Will the Mechman charge it over 14.4V and hurt the battery? Sorry if this is a ridiculous question.. just something I hadn't considered, and I do not have a voltage control module.... This alt looks quite beastly though. Will be installed tomorrow! RooTxBeeR
In all honesty, if you are asking that question. You should have asked it before you bought a product and having an expectation from it without knowing how it actually works to begin with. Charging voltage is usually based off of a builtin computer saying what to charge at. Honda's have an ELD (Electronic Load Detector), where the alt is only charging, when it detects a load. Which a system, doesn't count, it goes off of windows, heat/ac, lights, sum roof. Every car is different. What vehicle do you have?? 300blk
I just assumed it would be ok, Mechman recommended me the battery, then I read they dont like over 14.4V. It is going in a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7L. My OEM alternator would rarely, if at all, hit 14.8. It was generally 14.4. I take that back, Mechman recommended XS Power. XS Power recommended the D4800. Edited April 13, 2016 by 300blk

everybodyknowme
You might only charge at 14.4. You'll never know until you install the alt. Either way 14.4-14.8 you'll still be fine.

everybodyknowme
My mechman averages 14.4. It just depends on the car and electrical setup. Please make sure you do the big 3. THANKS
300blk
Thanks for the reassurance. I cooked my alt about a month ago so its been a long ride up until this point. The alternator looks amazing though. I almost wish I would have gotten it a custom color or something. Getting it professionally installed tomorrow hopefully. I would do it myself but my mechanic is chargin such a little amount I might as well save myself the headache. I also purchased a Mech Big 3 kit. My D4800 should arrive from the ups guy tomorrow as well with some 580 short posts.
