Noah Lee Posted April 20, 2016 Report Posted April 20, 2016 Hi looking at getting a kicker L7 8" as space is tight in my van the recommended ported box volume is between 0.66-1.0 cu.ft I have a few questions first is would a box of 30" wide 10" high and 6" depth made from 1/2" wood to give me best possible cu.ft with 3" round port 18.5" long be suitable in regards cu.ft? second question is what would you tune the box to? kicker recommend 47hz but that sounds a bit high to me, I was thinking 35hz???

Triticum Agricolam Posted April 20, 2016 Report Posted April 20, 2016 With the dimensions you gave using 3/4" wood you only have .63 cu ft of internal volume, and that before any sub and port displacements. Not enough. Also a 3" port probably isn't enough either. What amp are you going to be using? You really need more space. Noah Lee Posted April 20, 2016 Author Report Posted April 20, 2016 thats why I said I want to use 1/2" in the first place to gain as much box volume and would be using jl audio 500/1 at 2 ohm so what size port would you use and what would you tune it to ?
Triticum Agricolam Posted April 20, 2016 Report Posted April 20, 2016 I think using 1/2" material would be fine, but don't use MDF. Go find some real 9-ply baltic birch plywood. However, using 1/2" material still won't get you enough volume. Do you have space to reverse mount the sub? A 4" round port would most likely be appropriate.
