Mike Gann Posted April 21, 2016 Report Posted April 21, 2016 Hello there, Reading about battery's today and obviously if you live in cold weather the cranking amps will suffer. That's not my issue though living in Southern California but I'm reading that the life of your battery will be hindered by heat as well. Apparently every 18 degrees of heat will cut your battery life in half. Today I just bought an expensive XS Power battery, I was wondering if I can extend the life of my battery by adding insulation around it or something. Has anyone had any experience in this? Insulation should help in both hot and cold climates for their issues. My Ford Fiesta build log: http://www.fiestafaction.com/forums/threads/42371-Building-a-Fiesta-Sized-Subwoofer-Box
Broke_Audio_Addict Posted April 21, 2016 Report Posted April 21, 2016 I use a insulator around my under hood batteries but i think the idea is to protect it from under hood Temps not ambient temp. I really doubt it does anything to extend battery life though. That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals.
Wehan Posted April 21, 2016 Report Posted April 21, 2016 Ambient temp is ambient temp, unless you have an outside source adjusting the temperature within an enclosure for the battery the ambient temp will always eventually be present. Perfect example is your refrigerator, the outside source of cooling is the electrically driven compressor, power goes out and the insulated housing slowly but surely reaches ambient temp.
Mike Gann Posted April 21, 2016 Author Report Posted April 21, 2016 Ah yeah that makes sense but it wasn't the ambient temp that I was worried about. I drive my car around for work so the engine is on for almost 8 hours every day, gets pretty hot in there. I guess I'll let it be.
