carbon fiber dustcaps?

Recommended Posts

My 8 inch carbon fiber dustcaps came in yesterday and was wondering how I should go about installing these, I guess the idea is to just put them over the current dustcap?

this would seem to add weight to the cone, is there a benefit to cut the old caps off then install the new dustcaps?

would also think the larger cap diameter would cool the coil a little better due to the added airspace above the coil

You can just glue it over.

Weight will be negligible in performance, but you could cut most of the current dustcap off, I personally wouldnt remove it at the edge since it generally will rip the cone up a bit with it.

Most Likely not.

You leave the old dust cap on. Many companies using a larger diameter dustcap will still use a smaller typical cap.

The larger size does nothing for keeping the coil cool.

Removing the smaller cap would increase airspace, but also it is doing it for no reason since the hot air that makes its way up there has no way to get out.

The smaller cap is ideal because it makes it easier for the moving assembly to create a suction through the motor venting around the coil, which is why many companies still use the smaller cap while adding a larger one.
