MrSkippyJ Posted May 22, 2016 Report Posted May 22, 2016 Adjust the balance on your headunit and see if it functions properly. F150: Stock 2019 Harley Road Glide: Amp: TM400Xad - 4 channel 400 watt Processor: DSR1 Fairing (Front) 6.5s -MMats PA601cx Lid (Rear) 6x9s - TMS69
Jessica Posted May 22, 2016 Report Posted May 22, 2016 another thing you can try is in the network settings go to "gain" or "level" whatever it was and adjust down the mid level. Might help. You sure your tweeters are working? you didnt hook up mid and tweet backward of the headunit right? sorrry, might seem like dumb questions. Just trying to eliminate things. Esgedi Posted May 22, 2016 Report Posted May 22, 2016 Yes the amps are set to all pass. EQ is flat and no bass boost. Is this headunit a bad substitution for a DSP? Every headunit is a bad DSP solution. I've got a 2x4 MiniDSP with the advanced 2 way plugin, here's my corrected response graph after a good bit of tuning. Not even flagship headunits have the same level of performance as a $120 DSP. Going active without intense cabin prep/alteration or a big kahuna processor will leave you unhappy 10 times out of 10. Don't trust a shop but you personally just smoked two decks, makes sense. 03' Trailblazer LTDayton Designer 6.5"s & Silkie tweetersDayton Audio Ultimax 18"Pioneer 9601 & 8604XS Power D34002 runs 1/0Singer 250
notorious97200 Posted May 22, 2016 Report Posted May 22, 2016 I went active recently, with a mini dsp 2x4 : one pair of my old Focal tweeters an a pair os Seas mids. It sounded good the first time ! I have only set the crossovers. I did not play with time alignement yet. Something must be wrong in your system. It seems like your tweeters are not playing as they should. black BMW X1 2.0 l 192 hp OEM head unit, Amplifiers : Audison AP 8.9 with integrated DSP and Ampere Audio 1200. VDub916 Posted May 22, 2016 Author Report Posted May 22, 2016 The balance works properly and you are able to isolate each speaker. The tweeters sound pretty good actually but the mids sound like the bass is flat and vocals are not especially clear. I did try setting the gains with a dmm instead of by ear so I'll turn it down on the mids and see if it helps. When I put in my T2 components in a couple weeks, will it be worth it to buy a mini dsp or use the massive crossovers that they come with?
Jessica Posted May 22, 2016 Report Posted May 22, 2016 I'm running t21675's and my pioneer with a 12db slope at 80hz was different than my jvc at the same settings. VDub916 Posted May 22, 2016 Author Report Posted May 22, 2016 What do you guys recommend for crossover points between the mid and tweeter? Cross them at the same point or do you over lap?
MrSkippyJ Posted May 22, 2016 Report Posted May 22, 2016 What does the manufacturer recommend for the tweeter lowest range? I would start with that as a point between tweeter and mid. VDub916 Posted May 22, 2016 Author Report Posted May 22, 2016 Infinity only states the overal frequency range of the speakers. I called them this morning and they could not reccomend any crossover points but kept reiterating that the woofer can play down to 45hz.
VDub916 Posted May 22, 2016 Author Report Posted May 22, 2016 I am going to switch back to passive for now so it sounds decent. Last question, when I install the t2's (rated at 100 rms) would it be better to run: 1) Jl a4300 @ 70 rms ( not over powering) 2) jl a4300 bridged @ 150rms 3) my currently installed RF punch 400.4 bridged @ 200 rms Any one of the amps better than the other sound quality wise?
