Subwoofer postitioning in my Jeep Grand Cherokee

For the face of the box Im gunna build for the GCON I want the smallest dimensions. The woofer cone is 16 inches in diameter including the screw holes, is it okay to have the face of the box (width and height) be 16 inches by 16 inches, or do I need more space than that. I want to minimize width and height and maximize depth

cut out diameter plus material thickness on both sides will give you minimum baffle size-

ie) your cut out diameter is 14-1/8" and your using 3/4" MDF your min size would be 15-5/8"
