chuey_316
Well, I may have spoke too soon. It's been over a month now, and I've not had the amp go into protect once, until today. I decided earlier to redo the port on my box to tune a little higher. The amp is mounted to the side of the box. I just disconnected the remote gain, and rca's, then pulled the box out a bit and tipped it up to get to the screws on the underside. Got the port done and went for a ride. The amp is back to going into protect constantly. I've changed the rca's and it still did it. Tried letting it sit powered on with the remote gain, rca's, and sub disconnected and after a few minutes, into protect it went. It's also going into protect when the truck is started. Even if I turn the truck off while the amp is working, and start it right back up, the amp will be in protect for a minute before working. I thought that maybe I loosened up a connection when I tipped the box up, but everything seems OK. The only write that was disturbed was the remote wire, and I fixed that before going for the drive. 1999 Blazer AD-244 Alt (soon to be 2) HU / Pioneer P7800MP Sub / RE 18HC Amp / Shopping for a new one 7.71 cubes 118 sq" port area tuned to 34.9hz

ShadeTreeMechanic
Mounting amps to the box is hard on them. Probably a bad connection inside the amp. 91 C350 Centurion conversion ( Four Door One Ton Bronco) 250A Alternator (Second Alternator Coming Soon) G65 AGM Up Front / Two G31 AGM in Back Pioneer 80PRS CT Sounds AT125.2 / CT Sounds 6.5 Strato Pro component Front Stage CT Sounds AT125.2 / Lanzar Pro 8" coax w/compression horn tweeter Rear Fill FSD 5000D 1/2 ohm (SoundQubed 7k Coming Soon) Two HDS315 Four Qubes Each 34hz (Two HDC3.118 and New Box Coming Soon)
chuey_316
Would that cause it to do this, but then work fine for awhile? This is the exact thing that it was doing a month or so ago. After I ran a ground to the frame is been working flawlessly till I tipped the box on it's back and ended up putting pressure on the wires. 1999 Blazer AD-244 Alt (soon to be 2) HU / Pioneer P7800MP Sub / RE 18HC Amp / Shopping for a new one 7.71 cubes 118 sq" port area tuned to 34.9hz
ShadeTreeMechanic
An intermittent connection inside the amp can do this. 91 C350 Centurion conversion ( Four Door One Ton Bronco) 250A Alternator (Second Alternator Coming Soon) G65 AGM Up Front / Two G31 AGM in Back Pioneer 80PRS CT Sounds AT125.2 / CT Sounds 6.5 Strato Pro component Front Stage CT Sounds AT125.2 / Lanzar Pro 8" coax w/compression horn tweeter Rear Fill FSD 5000D 1/2 ohm (SoundQubed 7k Coming Soon) Two HDS315 Four Qubes Each 34hz (Two HDC3.118 and New Box Coming Soon)
chuey_316
Pulled it out again to have a quick look. No smell, and nothing burnt. Only Thing I could visually see is that one of the 2 bifilar coils no longer has the glue keeping it from being able to wiggle back and forth. I can see how this could easily rub off the coating and cause a short. Could this possibly be the problem? 1999 Blazer AD-244 Alt (soon to be 2) HU / Pioneer P7800MP Sub / RE 18HC Amp / Shopping for a new one 7.71 cubes 118 sq" port area tuned to 34.9hz
ShadeTreeMechanic
It could be anything. Everything is suspect. Without a good working knowledge of the amplifiers workings, there is a slim chance of fixing it unless something was obviously broken. Best bet would be to replace the amp, or send it to amp medics or some place to have it repaired. 91 C350 Centurion conversion ( Four Door One Ton Bronco) 250A Alternator (Second Alternator Coming Soon) G65 AGM Up Front / Two G31 AGM in Back Pioneer 80PRS CT Sounds AT125.2 / CT Sounds 6.5 Strato Pro component Front Stage CT Sounds AT125.2 / Lanzar Pro 8" coax w/compression horn tweeter Rear Fill FSD 5000D 1/2 ohm (SoundQubed 7k Coming Soon) Two HDS315 Four Qubes Each 34hz (Two HDC3.118 and New Box Coming Soon)
chuey_316
Yeah, I'll probably end up sending it out. it's overheating again, same as before. Just weird that I upgrade the ground, and have been able to push the hell out of it for a month now with no issues. Move the box and disturb the wiring, note back to overheating again. Gonna see if a friend of mine has some spare time and hook it up in his truck. If it does it in there to it'll be sent out. 1999 Blazer AD-244 Alt (soon to be 2) HU / Pioneer P7800MP Sub / RE 18HC Amp / Shopping for a new one 7.71 cubes 118 sq" port area tuned to 34.9hz
3vil
Double check that ground since this started up again after you moved things around.
chuey_316
Yeah,I pulled the ground and checked the lug and it seemed fine. Checked under the hood to. Have a ground from the neg batt terminal to the alternative bracket, then another from the alt bracket to the frame. Both looked ok there too. Very irritating. 1999 Blazer AD-244 Alt (soon to be 2) HU / Pioneer P7800MP Sub / RE 18HC Amp / Shopping for a new one 7.71 cubes 118 sq" port area tuned to 34.9hz
