ShadeTreeMechanic
What would happen if you tried 1 ohm? Is that a 2 channel amp? $800 for a mustang that needs a tranny? That is a new sub amp lol. I put a tranny in a 93 ranger a while back. Got a heck of a deal from a rebuild house in Cali on eBay. 91 C350 Centurion conversion ( Four Door One Ton Bronco) 250A Alternator (Second Alternator Coming Soon) G65 AGM Up Front / Two G31 AGM in Back Pioneer 80PRS CT Sounds AT125.2 / CT Sounds 6.5 Strato Pro component Front Stage CT Sounds AT125.2 / Lanzar Pro 8" coax w/compression horn tweeter Rear Fill FSD 5000D 1/2 ohm (SoundQubed 7k Coming Soon) Two HDS315 Four Qubes Each 34hz (Two HDC3.118 and New Box Coming Soon)

Evilthx
They are wired at 8ohms per sub then wired together for a four ohm load at the amp. I don't think it's wise to run a dual voicecoil speaker with one coil. The alpine amp is not happy at 1ohm and actually makes way less power than 4 or two ohms. I shut the alpine down three times in a row with my single P2D2 RF 12. My JBL's are rated at 400w rms (200w per voicecoil). I adjusted the gain further, they should be just over 600w to the pair. They sound clean, loud and happy. I don't know what for sure to do. Too many options. $800 for a Mustang GT 5 speed with low miles or a sub amp... I'm going GT and probably sell the Jeep and get a few more goodies than just a single sub amp. DeeBoy718
Dual voice coils are simply to give you options for different set up configurations. You're not hurting the subs if you use a single coil per sub. It doesn't make sense that your amp puts out more power at a higher impedance. It sounds like your amp is the weak point in your setup, no disrespect. Your subs are 400 watts rms per coil, not sure where you got 200 watts per coil. Not sure if you have, but download the spec sheet on them so you can see what I'm telling you. They're 400 rms per coil, 800 peak per coil, which is why JBL rates the power series at 1600 watts peak. I've had them for 3 years now on a 2,000 monoblock wired one coil per sub since I have the dual 2 ohm versions, and haven't had any issues. I'm sure they sound clean and loud, but if you feed them the right amount of power, you'll be shocked at what they can do. Is your box 5.9 cubes before or after displacements? I'd be careful if you decided to get a bigger/better amp while they're still in that enclosure. The specs say the optimal ported enclosure is 1.75 cubes per sub, so I wouldn't dare go any bigger than say, 2.5 cubes per for fear of mechanical failure. I'm sure your subs are fine right now in such a big box since they're being under powered. Just my two cents. 1997 Ford ExplorerHead Unit: Pioneer AVH4400BH Double DinAvic-U260 Navigation Unit Doors:2x Rockford Fosgate PPS4-8- Front2x Rockford Fosgate PPS4-8- Rear4x McLaren MLT-2 tweeters Amps: Audiopipe APDL20001D- Bass Audiopipe APCL-6002 Mids Audiopipe APCL 1004- HighsSub Stage:2x JBL P1222 dual 2 ohm coilsElectrical:Mechman 270 Ho altXS Power D3400-Up Front 2x XS Power D1200- Rear http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/192815-finally-built-my-4th-order/
Evilthx
Twas per the JBL spec sheet. It stated the P1224 is rated at 400w rms (200w per voicecoil) 1600w peak. The way my Alpine is rated, per Alpine, is such that at 2ohms it will put out 1000w rms at 14.4v, 600w rms at 4ohm 14.4v and at 1ohm will do 500w rms. It also says 1900w peak... I have to assume that is at 2ohms. I do know that only running one of the coils is not a good idea and can affect the subs parameters. Which can affect how it will function and sound in a given enclosure. My 5.9cu.ft. Is before the subs and internal structures. I'm guessing it's closer to 5.4-5.5 net. DeeBoy718
My apologies... Yeah, I read about running single coils on dvc subs somewhere a long time ago. I personally haven't had any issues, but that could also be because I don't drive alot (weekends mostly), and don't play my music that much, not to mention my gain is set very conservatively. I would just get a 1 ohm stable amp that can give those subs the proper power they're begging for, but i get not being able to justify blowing a chunk of money on it. Proceed, dude. 1997 Ford ExplorerHead Unit: Pioneer AVH4400BH Double DinAvic-U260 Navigation Unit Doors:2x Rockford Fosgate PPS4-8- Front2x Rockford Fosgate PPS4-8- Rear4x McLaren MLT-2 tweeters Amps: Audiopipe APDL20001D- Bass Audiopipe APCL-6002 Mids Audiopipe APCL 1004- HighsSub Stage:2x JBL P1222 dual 2 ohm coilsElectrical:Mechman 270 Ho altXS Power D3400-Up Front 2x XS Power D1200- Rear http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/192815-finally-built-my-4th-order/
Evilthx
I removed the big box with both 12's and put the single 12 back in. Now running at 2ohm... 1000w Poor battery. She didn't do this with a 4ohm load and 2 12's. Evilthx
Damn... Couldn't deal with my voltage gauge dropping so far. I decided to put my other 12 back in the big box and run them both again at 4ohms at the amp. This time I have them both and the port facing up. A 90amp alternator just isn't cutting it with a 4 channel amp running 2ohms X 4 and a mono amp running at 2ohms. My dumb ass was prolly pulling 250+amps full tilt when I dropped bottom so hard it made the chicks go DAAAYYYUUUUUMMM... ok, probably not making any chicks do anything but the system is better now with the subs at 4 ohms.
