If youre using multiple ports, then you account for that as well by dividing by its square root (depending on which route you take). A sub with a high vas has soft suspension and vice-versa. With the same sub, a 12" will have a lower VAS than the 18" version due to the difference in cone area. I'll also add: VAS is a volume measurement. Port area is a surface area measurement.
