loadassmazdaratti
I'm doing a build in my 01 Mazda b3000. We built a second alternator bracket already and I'm waiting to put in an external voltage regulator, but I'm curious if I can just take the old one out. I'm unsure on how that end of the electrical may work. Any help would be much appreciated.
ShadeTreeMechanic
Welcome to SMD! From what I have seen, when using an external regulator the alternator has to be set up for it first. I wouldn't take anything apart until you have everything you need to get it back together. What alternators are you using? What is your reason for wanting an external regulator? loadassmazdaratti
I'm wanting to have adjustable voltage so yes. I'll be using a single mechman 370 until I can order the second one

Markous
As our trucks are very similar i am curious to see what your set-up will look like, i have a 170A that i replaced with a 250A and i m thinking of trying to mount it in the AC location this coming spring. Mechman told me via an email exchange that i'd have to have the 170 modified to be self exciting for my idea to work. loadassmazdaratti
We built a custom bracket so I could keep my a.c. It mount the the same 3 bolts that are used for the a.c. compressor. There was no way I was going without a.c. in Alabama haha. I just want the system to run at around 14.6-14.8. Markous
Ah i see, still if you can share some images if you get a chance. My truck doesn't have AC and it's not a big deal up here, summer is just a few weeks of bad skating in these parts ?
