Does my system need an extra battery?

Recommended Posts

Hello and thank you all for your time. I'm in the final stages of my build here and I don't know if I need an extra battery or not.

The amp is a JL 1000.1 (Slash v1 series, 1000 watts). Box will be 2.5 cu. ft. tuned to 30 hz. It will be connected by Audiocontrol LC2i. Will be doing the big 3 upgrade. The car is a 2017 BMW M4 (alternator does 210 amps).

I've called 10 shops in my state and so far the responses I've gotten are:

5 said add capacitors
2 said add a battery
3 said it will be fine without any extra battery/caps, etc.

I'm in contact with BMW trying to find out the peak electrical load of the factory electronics, but waiting on a callback.

As far as playtime goes, I typically only play loud for 30 minutes to an hour at a time. There will NOT be extended trips of 2+ hours where the music is always near peak volume. I would prefer not to add capacitors as I swear they affected sound quality in my old setup. So it's either keep the stock setup or go for the extra battery (was considering the XS Power D680, is this overkill? Let me know if so).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. A main concern of mine is keeping the car "safe". I don't want to burn out the battery/alternator or affect the car's performance in any way (besides the weight increase). Thank you all very much!

first off, those 5 that said capacitors? never call them again, and don't give them your money.

the 2 that are for it, well they could be playing it safe or just want your money

I agree with the final 3.

with a 210a alt and good 1/0 wiring, you should have more than enough juice with your factory agm battery and alt to power 1k.

you never did say what kind of wiring your using...

BMWking.. how convenient haha, thank you very much for your input. The wiring I have on my "potential" invoice is a "0 G AMP KIT 1 AMP". This is from a shop that didn't recommend the caps, but said a battery might be smart.

Hope that provides more info you seek. Thank you.

haha yeah, i have an e39 wagon with a decent amount of equipment in it <img src=">

ok so i assume youre having a shop do the install then? if so, on the invoice, how much is he charging for the 0ga amp kit?

Awesome! And correct a shop will do the install. They have the 0ga kit on the invoice at 200$. This sound about right?

Also, is the LC2i enough for me? Not sure if there is a way to achieve higher quality or if it serves its purpose considering it's just for bass. Thank you.

holy balls no! that's ludicrous for that kit. dont get me wrong, they should make money on the labor, but that's basically anal rape.

buy this kit (it will handle all the power your amp could want) then just pay them to install it: https://www.amazon.com/KnuKonceptz-Bassik-Complete-Amplifier-Installation/dp/B01MQH1CBJ/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1534897737&sr=8-3&keywords=1%2F0+amp+kit

if they try to charge you $160 to run the wire, turn around and walk away.

seriously, considering your battery is in the trunk, they're only going to use like 5ft of power and ground wire from the batt to the amp. plus the lc2i will likely be off a rear deck speaker (so accessed from the trunk), and there's a fuse panel in the trunk that they can tap a remote line off of, if they charge you more than $50 to handle the wiring, shit... talk em down to less by telling them how all the wiring stuff is literally going to be handled in the trunk, save for running a bass knob line up in the cabin.

yeah an lc2i will work just fine for your needs of just adding a sub. try to get a bass knob with it to be able to adjust your bass after it's all installed.

As far as pricing goes......my shop charges $75 to hook up an amp if that gives you any reference of what the price is going to be give or take.

2010 Accord Sedan

XS D3400R

Clarion HU

Sundown mids and highs

Incriminator amps

Incriminator Lethal Injection 12"

1000 watt amp? battery under the hood is good enough. If u decide to add another amp, add another battery. I dont remember exactly but I think 14 capacitors = 1 regular battery, but those capacitors will have a draw.

75 not bad if they are running the rca, doing the ground, and battery through the firewall

especially if u dont have a garage or work area
