stingray72 Posted July 2, 2021 Report Posted July 2, 2021 Ok what do you guys think about me putting that fi sp4 v 2.1 18 in a 4th order bandpass? (I was thinking 2 cubic feet sealed and 5.50 cubic feet ported tuned to 46 hz) It would hit down to 32 hz and probably 60 something hz in the upper bass range. I would use two 8 inch aero ports external for the ported section and do them external into the cab. This is in a 2019 nissan versa sv on a taramps smart 3k at 1 ohm and id have a 350 amp alternator and 40 ah lithium battery.
1point21gigawatts Posted July 3, 2021 Report Posted July 3, 2021 That’s too small. But 2 8” aero ports would be good port area on a ported section of around 5 cubes. So that’s ok. But 2 cubic foot on that sealed section is too small and would cause that enclosure to not be musical at all and sound bad. Sp4s do well in 4th order enclosures though. But you would need to make that sealed section about twice the size you said and then if you want to not sound flat and get louder then you have to make the ported section about twice the size or more of the sealed section. So forget about them aero ports on that. Not enough port area now. I’ve seen a regular enclosure sub up and aero port external in the cab of a car do crazy numbers. You would be louder if you did that too because that bandpass you want to do is too small. People do do small sealed sections like that to get loud and it’s not musical and a strictly competition setup, but, the ported section is like 10x bigger than the sealed section and the peak is tuned higher than regular. You can’t fit a blow through on that subwoofer in your trunk like you are wanting. You would have to take out your backseat and build a wall if you want to do a bandpass enclosure. “How can we help you?” “And don’t forget to tell them that the customer isn’t always right.”
