Okay so this is a STPUID quesiton but why would you guys want more than 1 battery? Everyone has it and I'm just wondering. I mean, the system is only playing when the car is ON so wouldn't alternators cover it? Wouldn't the only reason to have >1 battery be to play it for hours when the car is off?

Haha thanks

the fact you can play it longer with the car off is a plus..........BUT its so you can stay at peak volume for longer amount of times...i.e. steve has enuf batteries to build a house and 4 alternators (plenty of power) and he even has a voltage drop...he revs his engine to get the most out of his system and keep the batteries up to full.....they keep your amps putting out the most power........you have one 12v battery that stays at 14 volts full charged.... 2 of them will help keep your system stay up to full capacity longer then say one with just 1 battery......hell w87will has a 300 amp iraggi alt and just 1 battery and he says that he isnt seing full capacity because that battery cant re-charge fast enuf...multiply batteries gets rid of that problem and keeps your system better (might not make sence, but it is all good)

what if they tried messing with the amps when the subs werent louder :ehh: hahah jk :pardon:

It all depends on the current demands of a system. Most small systems do ok with a single upgraded battery. Add a little amperage demanding multi-amp system to a car and then you'll have to consider what's best for feeding it. I say anything over 100 amps in current draw requires some attention in the charging / storage department.

okay so i guess the main reason is the battery cannot charge fast enough if you only have one? i'm about to upgrade my electrical so just wondering

Long story short. It's harder to drain 4 batteries then it is to drain 1. So you can keep a higher voltage for a longer period of time when pulling some massive power.

Big systems draw big current. I'm not going to rely solely on an alternator to feed my power-hungry babies. The more batteries the better in my eyes.

My amp draws over 500amps (I beleive 545 but can't remember right now). My alternator outputs 350amp at 2k rpm.

The alternator runs the system when the vehicle (in my case a van) is running. When the amp hits a good bass note it'll cause too much of a demand on the alternator. The battery then kicks in to account for the extra power needed. Once the bass note is done, the alternator then turns around and starts charging the battery.

Even with my 16 volt battery bank I am seeing a voltage drop. 14 8 volt 1000amp batteries wired to 16volts should, if my math is correct, be roughly 7000amps. At idle my voltage will drop down to 14.5 volts (not really good for a 16volt system). At 2k rpm, the voltage stays at 15.9 constant.

In short, it take power to make power.
