I was taught to use a different color for every layer of fiberglass mat. Its just to let you know where to build up at so you'll know where to start building up the next layer and so on. Usually I'll have 2 or 3 colors and change a color as I'm building up layers. It really helps if you want to perfect the layers on any build. I don't even use them anymore since I'm pretty good at knowing where I left off from the previous layer. There are other applications where you can use the color pigments depending on what you want to use them for.
