raytard
Now i've watched some of what GP and LSN do and its making me want to try it out .Now i've never glassed in my life so im new to glassing lol, Anyone care too list the stuff that i would need? Thanks. assuming a say, subwoofer enclusure, you need: a) appropriate thickness mdf (for back/bottom/sides if needed, speaker rings, supports, etc) resin and hardener, honestly the guy at home depot can help you find it, it is fairly generic, mixing directions are almost always on the hardener or resin. c) glad ware-pretty much disposable for holding/mixing resin and hardener, plus are flexible enough to break resin out of and reuse. Dont mix in your nice tupperware or bowls, it will get destroyed pretty quickly d) paint thinner-for cleaning off brushes soaked in resin or any mistakes so you dont have little brown mounds over your garage floor e) paint brushes-cheap crappy, old ones if you have it, will likely get destroyed f) lots of latex or rubber pvc gloves if you have an allergy, do not want this stuff on skin g) fleece, pick up at a craft store and buy the cheapest stuff, just make sure it is stetchy h) chop mat, can be a little hard to find, sometimes at home depot, rarely at lowes, marine stores have it commonly, or online if you dont mind paying shipping i) respirator, or atleast a mask, and work outside if at all possible, not too great to inhale j) bondo /body filler and hardener, for smoothing out the box once its done, noone is perfect and there will always be some high or low spots k) sand paper, preferably a powered sander and pads to save your arm. Something like 60grit to cut and 100/120 to finish usually works l) staple gun and staples, for attaching fleece to backing/speaker ring beyond that you need primer paint and sealant if needed if you plan on painting, glue and leather/carpet/vinyl if you want to wrap it, but that gets difficult really quickly. Also plan on lots of tape, aluminum foil, plastic wrap, and newspaper if you plan on making a molded enclosure or any sort of mold really. As a pointer, don't wear anything you particularly like, as it will be destroyed, when sanding you will get fine dust everywhere, so try and do it outside, or at a buddy's house. Do not get resin on any fabric, it wont come out, dont get it on your paint, because it always seems to ruin it, basically just dont get it on anything you want to keep for any time. This stuff for the most part stinks, and if you have a wife or girlfriend they wont be hugging you for a while and will probably not let you walk inside the house wearing the same clothes. Personally I kind of like the smell of bondo, but the resin is horrid. Dont be afraid to use paint thinner to get resin off of you, no amount of soap and hot water will. Jcoleman134
Im thinking of doing something like this. im having a hard time because of the window handle. damn manual windows  I would just keep the surface semi-flat until the window handle can do a complete spin then bring the glass up to the speaker ring. Im probably loosing you guys but ill try it out and see if it works. lol. And i swear i couldn't keep the painters tape on that door panel if it where to save my life lol. LSN2meBoom916
Im thinking of doing something like this. im having a hard time because of the window handle. damn manual windows  indeed I would just keep the surface semi-flat until the window handle can do a complete spin then bring the glass up to the speaker ring. that's exactly what I would have suggested. Just make a ful rotation of the handle and mark it off so even after you stretch ur material it will still rotate freely and then just stretch/resin/apply matt/etc Im probably loosing you guys but ill try it out and see if it works. lol. And i swear i couldn't keep the painters tape on that door panel if it where to save my life lol. The doorpanels come with a OEM/Factory "non-stick" finish (orange peal) and glossy non-stick coating to keep the soda and coffee spills from sticking...if you want anything to stick you will have to sand them and I would degrease/clean them thoroughly as well. Keep at it bro.
