Looking into Powermaster alts and wanted to know if these are good alts.

[post=http://www.powermastermotorsports.com/spl_alternators.html]http://www.powermastermotorsports.com/spl_alternators.html[/post]

Those alternators have no output at idle, and are for competition use only. If you are in a class where you can idle the vehicle up, and you never run it on the street, it would be OK. There are NO 300 amp alternators that will be streetable in the real world. (none of them will have any output at idle)

We offer some 250 amp alternators that still have decent output at idle and will live on the street. Shoot me a PM or e-mail if you would like more info.

Tell you what, why doesn't someone pull out their handy-dandy clamp meter and meter their 300 amp alternator charge wire with the system jamming and let me know what it says at idle. I've been wrong before...

I'm not throwing rocks at Dom, all I'm saying is that in 15 years, I've NEVER tested an alternator that could do an honest 300 amps that had more than maybe 50 amps at a REAL WORLD idle speed. I know everyone claims these huge #'s, but a lot of that has to do with how it is tested. I'm talking real-world testing, on a vehicle, hot, prolonged measurement. Unless you have a custom oversize crankshaft pulley made, or your ride idles at like 1,500 rpm, it just isn't going to happen.

BTW, what I said about the Powermaster units is written right in their catalog. At least they are honest.
