im not super smart about this.. but from my own experience i enjoy it when i have the subs facing inside the cab rather than towards the trunk.

-less trunk rattle

-cleaner sound

-you can feel more air (altho mine is sealed)

having a trunk car myself and a countless number of boxes in various positions i'd say do woofers+port back OR go all out and COMPLETELY seal the front from the trunk and front fire them. rear-firing will lower the transfer function and increase rattle while front firing will increase spl, raise transfer function, and decrease rattle in the back (when sealed).
