jcm1689
well i was at home depot today lookin at some stuff and wandered over to the lumber section to check out some stuff. right underneath the birch i saw some 4x8 sheets of agathis. it seemed pretty much identical to the birch from what i could tell. same weight. same grain and texture. and just as sturdy. yet its about $15 cheaper than the birch and only $7 bucks more than mdf? anyone used this or know if it would work to build boxes? Torres
if it's just as sturdy i'd say it'd be ok. as long as it doesnt fall apart and is very solid

Decaf
id say get the mdf the agathis is just venered with poplar sawdust + glues mixed together as the core if you're going to get plywood... it needs to say how many ply example... 3/4" 7ply baltic birch ply is ~$39 3/4" 13ply baltic birch ~$50-65 the only plus is if you want to stain.... thats why i used birch venered mdf.... looks good and is cheap
Forevrbumpn
I disagree, I used that Agathis on my 18" tline box I couldn't tell the difference with Birch/Agathis looked the same, felt the same, in as many layers as Birch, light, super rigid, low resonance Get that sht dude, wont be disappointed with it I have a ritual called "terminator". I crouch in the shower in the "naked terminator" pose. With eyes closed I crouch for a minute and visualize either Arnie or the guy from the 2nd movie. I then start to hum the T2 theme. Slowly I rise to a standing position and open my eyes. It helps me get through my day. The only problem is if the shower curtain sticks to my terminator leg. It sorta ruins the fantasy.
