I have a buddy of mine, he has a shop up north, I used to build shop boxeor him all the time, now he has a personal project.

Its a BMW, about a 04' ish 4 door, dunno which model exactly

He has on order some RE MX- 12"s

He wants them firing thru the arm rest, he will eep it clear just for the port

I know, and he already told me, that that trunk is sealed up pretty good, besides the arm rest, so thats the goal

Iam thinking of doing a bandpass right thru the arm rest

I prefer bandpass in luxury cars , or completely sealed off dadened trunks just for the fact its hard tget the bass in the cabin

So this is my plan, and I have NO experience with an MX

Iam assuming this may be a Ray question, since his shops always pushing them REs

This is ABOUT how it will be

2.5- 3cf ported side

1.5-2.5cf sealed side

Sealed is the chamber behind the back seat, with the wedge

the ported side will be the plexi glass videw side facing trunk

I know ANY other sub, ths box idea will be perfect, I just dont know with the MXs

heres some quick designs to give yall an idea

And Again, I may be way off on trunk dimensions, especially since Iam not 100% on the model, but I will find out in a few hrs

I doubt a Bimmer has a 26" deep cavity behind the seats, maybe 17" tall, but not sure

just a guesstimate box

If I absolutley have to, I will just face the subs, and port towards seat, or talk him in to a spare tire wel fiberglass enclosure

from my experience mx 12 and mx 15, they arent great in a bandpass type enclosure, theres alot of mechanical noise from them that can be heard at low volumes

well, I crunched some numbers on BB6.0... looks like dual tuned bandpass shows the cleanest freq response and highest effeciency

But not sure about pulling that one. Ive done dual tuned before, bt dont want to waste the time

Another idea was to build a ported cavity in to the area behind the seat, and build a box that slides in to it... Slide the box back and forth to get the right tunning, and max boom for this car- That way should be able to tune from 30-60hz and just adjust per listening

According to BB6.0, and REs website, these subs like really small boxes, like 0.75cf sealed, and about 2-2.5cf ported

See that is what Iam thinking too James, a subwoofer with excursion like these things can dish out, there WILL be some port noise unless I go with a really big port

Maybe a big ole 10" PVC port thru the rear deck? That will cut the noise down ALOT

The original port plan was going to be something like 6"x6" if that even fit back there- maybe good for one sub, not 2

How much port area can you get? Maybe do a fglass port to minimise loss of area due to the port walls?

I'm sure you could get 8" x 10" in there if you got creative with it And IMHO this is the best SQ orientated design for trunk cars, especially ones that don't fold the back seats.

I personally love doing band pass boxes, people that dont like them are usually the crowd that worked at stereo shops, or bought one from the fleamarket for like $79 with the 1/4" plexi windows

Creativity is what keeps me alive on installs, I always try and think outside the box, and say to myself, "What have people NOT done yet?"

I really want to do a sliding box, that slides in and out of the cavity to change tuning.

If this guy competes, he can slide the box in to raise tuning

for daily, slide the box back a little to lower tuning

we'll see, I just got offered a job, so now I may not have a lot of time on this
