12voltz+- Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 Im kinda in a toss between a few things ..... i want to run 16v for my sub amp and 12v is needed for my van to run its shit and i need 12v for mids and highs amp and radio. so this is what i was thinking get 2 16v alts like 250-300 amp each do 4 runs of 1/0 to the back where my battery bank is... and the battery's i was debating between kinetik hc16v and was gunna do like 10 of them and with that i could power my sub amp and the kinetiks still would have the 16 post so i could also use it to start the van use it for the vans electrical system and use it fot my 12v audio...... that was option 1 .... my next was gunna be getting like 5 or 6 power master d1000's use 4or 5 in the back for the sub amp and have 1 of them up front with a 993 step down unit, soi can run the can and other 12v stuff.... opinions > ideas comments any thing let me know
EricM9104 Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 why 16v anyways? 2015 Honda Civic LX 4dr | 110k miles | Stock 1996 GMC Yukon SLT 4dr 4wd | 260k miles | JVC Head-unit
Aaron813 Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 Kinetik HC 16 volt batteries have a starting post that is 12 volts on the battery
MECHMAN Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 why 16v anyways? Because you will get way more wattage out of your amplifiers than you would with the same charging system at 12 volts. You also get less loss through cabling. Check out the lawsuit where Powermaster is sueing Kinetik for false claims on the performance of their 16V battery. Also, the last cell on the 16 volt 3 post batterys will swell and explode if you attempt to use them how you described, with a 16 volt alternator. Each 993 box is rated at 25 amps continuous, even though I have pushed them much farther than that personally. You might need to do 2 or 3 993 to run your 12v amps. Don't worry about the starter cable, it can be run directly off of the 16V battery without any problems. 1-888-MECHMAN www.Mechman.com [email protected]
missinglink Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 note: x2 if you use the PM step down module you can only use 50Amps of current max off the stepped down part meaning 700W on a good day and that's not even enough for most motors.... You can run a pro series module with the high / low switch it will get you a high 15.6/15.8v and a low 14.4/14.6. This will get you close with out all the hassel of step downs and running your alts above 18v to keep a proper 16.9v battery charged. This is a best of both worlds type set up , I have had my 12v hc2400 charging at 15.8/16v for a year now , they run fine and rest at 13.3. Key is to have enough batteries (8 to 10min) to soak up the voltage so they get a full charge on the high side for shows and you can run on the low side for long drives. Hope this gives you some ideas and options for the 16v setup. MLA missinglinkaudio The United States Marine Corps.
