Soo.. What Makes It Work?

Anyone took physics? I havent.. saw some Tv shows but I still dont know how electricity is turned into sound. How does it stimulate a speaker to move perfectly to move in and out that many times to make that specific frequency? What the FUCK?! What am I REALLY doing besides "making noise" or "disturbing the atmosphere" Thats the product of EVERYTHING ELSE. Anyone got a book on this I could read? lol

such open ended questions

dc is sent to an amplifier which turns dc to ac

ac when sent thru a coiled wire in a magnetic gap moves up and down x number of times a second... or frequency/hertz... this is because of the poles of a magnet and the electromagnetic field created by sending electricty tru the voiceoil

the higher stength magent the more power it takes to enter and exit the magnetic field... thus why btls (high strength motors) take 2000+ watts to counter the push and pull of the magnet

so a 35hz note would move the coil inside the gap 35 wavelengths... from crest to crest or trough to trough

speakers excite the air surrounding itself, pressurizing it at a specific rate and amplitude... this is how we recieve it in our brains... as a frequency or wavelengths per second and the volume is determined by how large the amplitude is

and a book... its called a physics book.... or for speakers... the loudspeaker cookbook

i am seriously dumbing this down... not to be rude but to save time and space elaborating on all of the variables...

theres alot more involved but thats the basics of ur question

Its open ended I know but I really want to know what I'm doing here.. Sounds like I need to go to college or something to learn whats happening on the sub atomic scale. =] I gotta be turning something into something. Hydrogen to helium! Magnets and copper (spinning.. for some odd reason.) make electricity which is made up or electrons (?) that go through wire.. somehow.. to the CD player and young jeezy is like "yeaaaahhhhh" and it comes out the speakers.. Do you see what I'm saying? That book about speakers will tell me this or is this forum not really the place to talk about science..?

I appreciate your response! It definetly helped!

and what "square" waves are you talking about? Your cd player reads in a digital "square" format and then it moves to DAC's that convert it into an audio signal (sine wave) which is then sent to your speakers.

you can cook bacon shirtless if you're not a pussy...lol

not hatin, but am i wrong here it looks as if the amp is not grounded its hooked directly to the battery. it that the way it should be.

?????? its all science...

i could spend a grip talking to you about whats going on in the car but whats it worth to know or hear from someone... why not learn it yourself with books infront of you while you make a speaker... that will help explain things...

we did the sytrofoam plate speaker when i was in physics so that helps

and i could help with the jeezy thing but his atomic structures have been disrupted from all that damn snow...

all i know is when he says "yeaahhhhh" not only did he just make $10,000 saying one word... the bass is about to hit.. :hairtrick: :clapping: :hairtrick:

lol i want some of what your smoking :spiteful:

i was thinking leave the 12 sitting in the box in the hole and duck tape from the bottom of the sub to the bottom of the baffle so the sub doesnt free air. would that work?

Iam just curious as to why you want to know about square waves?

To a speaker they are dangerous

When we would sweep speakers at the test bench, on the tone generator, there is a selector for Square waves- I was bored more than a few times, and hit this switch, not on customers subs, but just random returns, or failures, and its NOT a pretty sound, just a BUZZZ at what ever frequency rate your sweeping at

What the square waves do is not heathly to mechanical devices that use electro magnets, etc

easy way to kill a speaker

I have a ritual called "terminator". I crouch in the shower in the "naked terminator" pose. With eyes closed I crouch for a minute and visualize either Arnie or the guy from the 2nd movie. I then start to hum the T2 theme. Slowly I rise to a standing position and open my eyes. It helps me get through my day. The only problem is if the shower curtain sticks to my terminator leg. It sorta ruins the fantasy.

the way that i make sense of all this is to start at the cd.

the cd contains information (in the form of grooves and bumps). a cd player shines a laser into these grooves and is able to interpret a corresponding frequency to those grooves. now those frequencies are taken and amplified and sent out to the speakers and subs. subs are easier to explain so ima do that.

once the frequency is sent through the rca's to the amplifier the amplifier is able to interpret that information into usable energy for the sub (i.e. ac current) now here is where things tend to get complicated and i tend to get lost but i will try anyway.

the amp converts that information it recieves (which is amplified grooves and bumps from the cd) to usuable power for the sub (ac current) then when it sends out the information it is greatly amplified from its original state but still intact as far as the information goes. think of the power going from the amp to the subs as a package. a large package means alot of power and the label indicates the written information that is wut makes sound.

so from the amp the subs recieve a large package (lot of power) that has a label saying 35 hz for 2.3 seconds (or wutever) the voicecoil is then able to create repulsive and attractive forces from that package. the voicecoil then moves up and down 80.5 times in 2.3 seconds which is recieved by our ears and interpreted in our brain as bass.

so basically the best way to think of things is a cd is a label maker and amplifiers are packaging companies that put that label on bigger boxes until it reaches its destination and is read and discarded.

i hope that made sense
