Is This Waay Too Much Power For These Subs?

I have ordered a new amp to replace my T8002. The new amp is a T1500-1bd, and supposedly does 1500wrms @ 1 ohm. With my current speakers (2 12" mtx 8500's, rated @ 500w RMS each) i only have a choice of wiring the subs at 1 ohm or 4 ohms because they are both dual voice coil 4ohm subs. So.... If I wire them @ 4ohms, I only get 500wrms x1 out of the amp, which is weak for my subs.. But if I wire them @ 1 ohm, I get 1500wRMS which is overkill for the subs :( . I know these are still high quality subs, so maybe they'll be okay with an extra 200 watts to each of them. Any advice anyone?

Thanks,

Joshua

Wire them to 1 ohm, and be nice with the gains, and you should be ok.

That amp does close to 2000w rms.......

the gain will have to be damn near at "0"

be careful

Thanks for the feedback everyone- I know Rockford understates their "power rating" for amps, but I ordered mine through Ebay for $265 and it doesn't come with a birthsheet...so maybe it's closer to the rated 1500w instead of a couple of the luckier 1800+watt birthsheets i've seen for the t1500-1bd's (lucky bastards!) . but either way, IMO $265 seems like a -steal- for this amp :) You don't really think I should keep the gain set all the way down to "0" should I  ? Well, then it's a good thing this one dont come with a "bass remote", cause I'd probably blow them on the first day haha! how will I be able to tell if its getting too loud for them? (i know, stupid question)

just ordered a 200amp inline circuit breaker too :)

believe it or not, the 8500's seem to love that juicy 1600 watts rms going to them. I'm suprised, thought it would blow the sh** out of them already
