How To Tell If A Song Is Clipped

Recommended Posts

yeah its on his album

remember a little clipping is ok... we are talking tenths of a second.... but a prolonged clipped single like in Mary Jane will cause overheating and many problems after that

its tedious... is a little overkill.... but its really best to use the clipping finder on every song... then watch it on an osciloscope... and determine how severe the clip is and whether the song should be played or not

alot and i mean alot of gucci mane and souljaboy are clipped like crazy... be careful when dl from p2p

Is there a way to use audacity to see if there is "a lot" of clipping?

How to do I determine if thee is "a lot" if I don't have a scope?

Dunno if it will do more harm than good, but in Audacity's beta, you can toss in a low pass filter. After I used it, it eliminated all the clipping I had, but it makes the song sound "stuffier."

If it matters any it was Webbie's Six 12s.

Like I said, I'm not an audio guru like some (read: most) on here, but I do do know after I ran the low pass filter, the clipping finder no longer found clipping. If you want, I can give a before and after screenshot.

EDIT:

You may be offended by the above. Don't take it personally, I'm just abrasive.

You can also change the amplitude...but I'm not sure that eliminates the problem it may not be peaking into clipping but the saturation is still there.

Question!!

The new beta has this option where you check "show clipping" and it shows clipping with red lines.

HOwever, when I did the old method --> Anaylze - Clipping and it doesn't detect anything.

According to this track is there clipping?

Is there a way for audacity to scan and remove the clip red lines?

Some of my songs have a little bit of clips

A little bit is ok.

If you do start to smell it, turn it down a little.

If it is 100% Clipped damn near the whole song, that is when you need to worry.

Like Chopped and Screwed by T-Pain.

To answer your question, no, you can't remove clipping.

I can't just load up audacity and manually delete the red lines ?

Zoom in and cut the part where it clips

You would be removing parts of the song, therefore making it sound like it is skipping.

I was unclipping the "The Dream - let me see the booty feat lil jon" song

It took 1 hour to remove all of the clipped parts.

There wasn't big chunks so it was easy to just zoom in and remove the nano second part of the clipped parts or so.
