Triple FTW
Well im gunna buy a sub soon and I just noticed its Dual 1 ohms. Can some one explain what that is and how an amp powers it. Also Ive never seen an amp that says "dual 1 ohms @ 2600 rms" So how does a 1 ohm transfer into a dual 1 ohm? THANKS
Aaron813
dual one means its voice coil is a dual 1 ohm coil you can wire it to .5 ohms or to 2 ohms
wL<3bass
Ohms is the measure of resistance in the voice coil winding.....dual 1s wire series into 2ohms and .5ohms parallel so with you post I'm assuming you need 2600wrms at 2ohms....get a zx2500.1 Quote Vehicle: 1997 S10 Blazer 4dr 4X4 Exterior: Rear End Bagged, Black Grill, Lifted 2" Amplifiers: Rockford Fosgate T8004 & T10001bd Batteries: 2 Stinger SPV35, Kinetik HC2400 Electrical: Big 3, DC Power 290amp Alternator w/ MLA at 15.5v Enclosure: 4.2 ft³ @ 33Hz 84sq.in. of port (20sq.in. per cube) Headunit: Eclipse CD3200 w/ 80G iPod Mids/Highs: Rockford T152s (a-pillars), Rockford T162s (doors) Subwoofers: 1 15" Fi BL Fully Loaded Wire: All 1/0g Kicker Hyperflex My YouTube Videos My Fiberglass A-Pillar Build My "Seamless" Looking Box Build My DD1508 T-Line Bandpass Build "Seamless" w/ Acrylic Windows (for '05 TrailBlazer) My Stealth 8" Fiberglass Build (for '05 TrailBlazer) My Build For A Friend's '08 Cobalt 15" BL Sealed Off From The Trunk My feedback/references... roscoe1129
a speaker has a voice coil that coils resistance is measured in ohms. some speakers have 2 voicecoils. so your speaker is a dual 1 ohm subwoofer. you need an amp that puts out 1200watts at 2 ohms because you are going to run the coils in series. +of coil 1 to the - of coil 2 then the - of coil 1 to the negative of the amp and the + of coil 2 to the + of the amp. see what the amp says it does at 2 ohms and that is what your going to be giving the sub in terms of power. Car stereo cookbook is an excellent choice for a newbie yes that amp will work. sound better meh has nothing to do with sound at this point just getting the proper power to the sub.
