qu1cks1lver56 Posted September 7, 2008 Report Posted September 7, 2008 so im looking to buy a headunit this coming week and its either the apline cda 9886 or cda 9887 but i was wondering what the difference in the 2 is and is it worth the extra money for the 9887. ive found several 9887's for about 320 and some 9886's for 250-270 so what does that extra 50 bucks get me? roscoe1129 Posted September 8, 2008 Report Posted September 8, 2008 ask bill (kingsuv) hes an alpine junky.... In my experience with most companies numbers like that express a new model year like the kenwoods one year would be a kdc 9907 and the next would be a kdc 9908.... Not sure bout the pines tho. Guest Caps Posted September 8, 2008 Report Posted September 8, 2008 i got this guys, the 9886 is basically the 9887 WITHOUT the crazy ass eq, but it has usb. but for an extra $100ish you can get the imprint module which gives you all the tunability of the 9887. so if you get the 9886 with the imprint you will get the options of the 9887 but with usb Quote
pstone11 Posted September 8, 2008 Report Posted September 8, 2008 He got it... My 9886 just showed up yesterday - repalcement for the 9885 that's in the sausage. Really nice head unit too, solid, slick, like the USB input. Got it for 230 shipped with the Ipod cable. Quote Check out StoneSounds to see my recent builds.Or look at the Flying White Facebook Page!
qu1cks1lver56 Posted September 8, 2008 Author Report Posted September 8, 2008 damn. im leaning towards the 9887 for the built in crazy eq and time alignment and the changeable button illumination (big + for me can get that alpine green ) but i do like the usb input on the 9886 cuz i do carry around a flash drive loaded with music all the time. The Performer Posted September 8, 2008 Report Posted September 8, 2008 I was asking the same question a little under a year ago. Go with the 9887, I did and now I know why, and now I appreciate MUCH more why I went with it. There is a BIG difference between features of the two when you learn to use one or both of them. I can go to best buy and play with the 9886 and it just pisses me off to see how many features it lacks. Not only the nice EQ but the crossover is a MAJOR plus. Changing the background animations and illumination colors is another great feature... Um, man I can't even describe it all. Just go with the 9887. I'm not sure what the other posts said about imprint, but understand that imprint works for both the 86 and 87. On the 87 it's just not called "imprint" on the button, it's "multi-eq". Same thing, different button. I'll come back and add in other features if you want, but I need to see about getting my remote for my alarm fixed right now. As for the best price, amazon. I got mine in January for $280. Quote CERTIFIED BITCHES!!! Not being new at something doesn't mean anything.
