Craig
How important is sub placement in sealed applications? I'm thinking of doing a sealed box for two L7 15's in an explorer and I'm wondering about the subs up/ subs back difference.
Ernesto
Don't think in a sealed enclosure it would matter as much which way you face your subs.
Craig
Yeah, I was thinking of doing a box with some plexiglass in it and wanted to make sure placement wouldn't affect things.

I don't think it would in a sealed box... If it does I doubt it will be noticeable.
LSN2meBoom916
I dont think that's right guys. This is how it has been explained to me/what I found doing research:(in my own words) By placing a box w/ subs facing the rear of the vehicle (trunk, suv, hatch, etc) the distance the wave has to travel before it reaches your ear up front is LENGTHENED. By lengthening the path of the wave, you increase the amount of time the wave is traveling through the air as it moves from the front/cone of the woofer outward, then "bounces" off the rear tailgate/hatch/trunk lid and changes direction 180 degrees heading towards the front of the vehicle. This longer "flight path" of the wave and longer time interval causes a "doplar-like" shift in the wave itself and lengthens out the wave. A longer wave will in fact = lower frequency (part of why longer ports = lower tuning) By pointing the subs back there will be a "perceived" lowering of the sound you hear and some say that setup will sound "boomier" (most would agree to be a GOOD thing esp if you're limited on woofer size). An example of this- If you hear a car/truck DUMPIN from real far away, along with sounding pretty soft/quiet and gettign progressively louder, the first sounds you hear will sound very LOW (hz) and the tone will get higher as the vehicle approaches. Oh yea and tests prove it. http://installer.com/tech/aiming2.html COOGLE SAID:"bro thats how we got where we are... buy making messes ...... i still learn all the time you just gota be willing to ruck up some shit" "In order to attain the impossible, one must attempt the absurd." ~ Miguel de Unamuno"One machine can do the work of fifty ordinary men, but no machine can do the work of one extraordinary man" -Elbert Hubbard"A proud man can learn humility...but he will be proud of that too" ~I forget who.I'm far from perfect and I know it better than anyone, but I hope to be good at what I do, when I do it...Installs I've done:My Integra: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...?showtopic=3161The Lexus : http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...?showtopic=1535Law's Maxima: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...ic=5568&hl=Jeff's 2500HD: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...ic=5382&hl=Acura RSX-S: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...?showtopic=3142Z-32 300zx: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...?showtopic=34602004 Civic 4dr: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...?showtopic=8190Trunk/Corner Box: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...c=16036&hl=1969 Chevy C-10: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...c=20319&hl=Seat-Back AMP-RACK How-to: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...ic=9428&hl=Bunch of subs still for salehttp://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...l=lsn2meboom916"It's game night...we're playin......sex."~Quagmire"When disneyland started it was powered completely by orphan children running on treadmills to generate e-lectrissty…and today, them children are New York Yankees". ~Dale Gribble"Fill it with ice...then pour it up to the top of the ice...& Shut da Fu** up!" ~Urs truly.
