LSN2meBoom916
OK Coo. I thought there was more to it cuz he some how managaed to keep all his pics "in line" on the first page, even after updates, and mine just showed up after other folks comments so THAT was the "Q?" part, but as long as it's understandable n all I gues it's Kosher. What ya think? More to come. still got the pods to post and electrical/lights n whatnots. LSN2meBoom916
Thanx everyone for the props. This is far from "loud enough". Like I said I have at least 2 more builds lined up for this car, just no TIME!..and some $$ for materials would be nice too. Anyhoo-Here's the promised pics of the build up of my kickpods. Pretty bulky I KNOW. Idea here was to make them as BIG as possible to get some decent midbass outta my 5 1/4's and acheive some decent/good SQ up front (where I tend to sit)...AND keep them removable,so I built on top of/in front of the kick-panel instead of using it as a base. I started off on the passenger side and taped/foiled it off. Then I layed some resin as a base. Taped up the driver side and used a lil cardboard for a template of the foot rest which I used as a mounting method (notice 2 screws) More tape and a pic of the "aftermath" of the tape. It all came clean w/ some GooGone cleaner. Cut the tear drops and mounting rings. the tweeter is in the top part of the tear and the back end of it was recessed in 1/4". Here you can see the teardrop lookin piece, the 2nd baffle the mid will screw to, and the 1/4" trim-ring insert that "CHOKES-DOWN" the 6 1/2" opening to a 5 1/4" mounting hole. I did this so I could mount My MB Quart 5 1/4" right away, and some day just pull out that 1/4" trim ring and drop in some 6 1/2's w/ out modding the pods. Test fittin. Glueing the rings to the tears. MANY HOURS worth of testing to the the aiming as good as possible. Finally mounted em up using hot glue and 1/2" dowels cut to length for proper aiming. All ready to start laying glass on em. Used hot glue to attach strips of woven matt between the wood and fiberglass backing.(driver side) And same for the passenger side. Painted em up w/ some resin and left in the sun for some quick drying. Sadly no pics of the bondo/resin milkshake i used on the inside or the bondo use and sanding phase. I guess i was too busy/filthy sanding em smooth enough to cover and I was getting anxious so i skimped on those pix. Here's the final product after I had sanded em quite a bit and covered them in black fleece. You can also see where I mounted my x-overs on 1/4" mdf covered in white vinyl. Kinda a tight fit by the gas pedal but I got lil feet and it's NEVER been any inconvenience. I covered the Trim-ring insert in white vinyl to stand out against my black interior and the pod material. It is visible around the edge of the midwoofer even thru the grills I made. The grills i made using metal mesh/screen material from home depot and just hammered it into shape around the mdf disc that I cout out of the teardrop/front of the pod. Fits nice and snug and has saved my lil mids hella times from the feet of clumbsey assholes and ditsy chicks who see them and go "what this?" as they kick em a few times. :ranting2: Here's a shot of the passenger side x-over mounted. A nice night shot w/ my under dash neons on. And again w/ the camera set on hi-res lighting. (not my leg) That's it for now. I actually JUST pulled the mid woofers out and put in some Cadence Elite 6 1/2's just to try it out. No pics yet, but I'm workin on that. Seems like a lil more midbass but not much. My MB Quart 5 1/4's are bad ass IMO. Hard to beat em. Hope ya guys like em. LSN2meBoom916
Thank you sir. It's a kinda a shame I JUST now got to post it for anyone interested in the build pics. It's a little "old" now and I'm DYIN to rebuild w/ the rest/new gear and come out with something bigger/better/louder. Just waiting on time/$$/...Time mostly. The new setup will be painted fiberglass, new pods also painted and slimmer using the kick panels, and a motorized amp rack for the 4 amps instead of 2. Should be fun. It's not considered "loud" anymore (if it ever was). I'mma try to have my Ipod/new deck in by Autorama so i can meet up w/ Steve, David, DVB916,forevrbumpn, and anyone else who will be there in feb. At that point I'll get a pic up for my official TL on this build cuz I won't be able to rebuild before then.
