Kicker does changes to their subs every 2 years. 2000-2001 L7- Black cone with red and greyish silver logo. 2002-2003 L7- Greyish silver cone with red and greyish silver logo. 2004-2005 L7- Silver cone with blue logo 2006-2007 L7- Super dark grey almost black cone with little silver logo. 2008-2009 L7- is on the Kicker site and the only one I have not used. Ya I used to rip the spiders out of the 2002 series and 2004 series. For the most part I would say user error on my part but I used to beat the shit out of the 2000 model and never had any spider problems. I never have had a problem with the 2006 model and I have heard the 2008 8 inch L7 in a ported box and about shit myself. No biggy man. Lets just say I have loved Kicker and studied their products for around 12 years. But I stopped useing Kicker amps when they dropped the ZR/XS amps. Its bed time. They all still have bugger all thermal power handling but they seem to be making things stronger physically. I used to chew the crap out of the soft parts on my old ones, they were just weak. The newer ones seem more rugged. As for louder, probably not a huge deal.
