I was involved in a accident my car, had 8000 left on the loan, insurance covered 6200 and I have to pay the rest. Btrash Posted December 9, 2008 Report Share Posted December 9, 2008 Yes you have to pay your car off. If it is totalled, insurance will give you what they value the car at. You can use that money to pay off the car. If they don't value it at more than what you owe, then you are upside down. If you have gap insurance, that will cover what is left between what they value it, and what you owe. example: you owe 5000, but insurance values car at 4500. They give you 4500, and you use that to pay off the car, but then you still owe 500. Im not an insurance specialist but im pretty sure they wont cover something like that for example if I take my snowmobile out wich has full coverage insurance and I wreck it doing a back flip on a summit and its totaled im pretty sure they arent going to cover it. Same way with cars if you go out and lauch a car off a hill they arent going to cover it or atleast im pretty sure they arent going to cover that. I see your point but theres really no need for a police report because it was just a curb nothing else. it was raining and the car hydroplaned around a corner and i it a curb.
