Aluminum + Butyl

Recommended Posts

Alright, not sure where to post this, but ive been thinkin about it for a few days now. How hard can it be to make sound deadener. Ive got access to just about everything i would think one would need to make it. Ive thought about over the spring/summer making a little test batch to see if i cant figure it out. I think we should get a group of people togeather and make this shit work, then well be rich, hell, we could make..."one billion dollars" (in Dr. Evil accent) lol.

But seriously, anyone got any suggestions or ideas, tried it and failed, tried it and succeeded? Any input would be much appriciated.

And i know im going to get one person who is going to say waste of time/effort. This is the kinda stuff i like to do, so therefore no it isnt.

woman..cant live with em...cant shoot em...guess were all fucked

You might be a Redneck if you use your leftover gutters for a speaker box port...

i mean essentially you have to stick butyl (which is really sticky anyway) in a fairly consistant layer to some thick ass aluminum foil

go for it

ive never messed with trying to make it, but i assume if you layed down some heavy duty aluminum foil in like a jig(so it had a lip all the way round) and heated butyl enough to be liquid and poured it over, i guess that would work, but im sure the butyl wont go that liquid till like 4 or 500degrees atleast, maybe alot more, im not too informed on the thermal properties of it, i just know it stays fine up until like 200 degrees in most cases

monster/rockford/kicker/stinger cables, pioneer source, jbl highs/amps, kinetik/shuriken batts, iraggi alt, dei security, dc subs(atleast for now)

im not sure on its thermal properties either. Im guessing it can vary. As far as your idea as to how to make it, thats what i was thinking, but it seems to simple to be right. But i know sometimes the simplest thing is the answer. This is something I will most likely try to do over the summer or spring. Its been bugging the shit outta me since i got to work the other day last week. Walked into the shop to get into the offices, and i thought about sound deadener for some reason. Probably cuz i work for a subcontractor who does curtain wall/glass and we just happen to use butyl quite frequently in the field. My mind jumps from idea to idea pretty damned quick, and next thing i know i was sitting at work trying to figure out how to make sound deadener.

thats a good idea. theres something called grace. its a roofing material. it would work good for sound deadener

And far as the best connection ever.......

get a huge fucking battery, cut the top off, drop an alt in there and then pour all that into your big amplifier. or just smelt them all together.

I think if we can get enough people working on this, we could have something here. Hell, i would probably have gotten something worked out by now, but i just thought of it last thurs and its colder than balls here. I just drove home from work. My 45 min drive took me 2 and a half hours. Fuck snow and fuck people who live around chicago and cant drive in it. LOL.

it may be cheaper and yes definatly less work. but the point here is he has something he wants to do just because he would like to make his own as an acomplishment.
