I have the same interior as you with the exception of mine being a 5 speed and my core leaks and I have no heat. Did you tear the whole dash apart or just flip it foward like the repair manual says? Did you tear the whole dash apart or just flip it foward like the repair manual says?It was not that hard. It just had alot of screws and and bolts you have to remove to remove the dash. But once I got them all out, then I droped the steering colum, then I uncliped the main harness to the dash and a few others and removed the dash and sat out side the car. Then you have 5 or 6 bolts that you have to undo that mounts the heater core assembly. I think 2 are located on the upper fire wall and then you have two that are in side the blower assembly then you have to remover the passenger inner wheel well and you have 2 on the lower part of the fire wall. After that you should be able to pull the heater core assembly of and just slide the old heater core out and put the new one in and reasemble everything you just took apart. It is alot of work! But if you take your time and go step by step you will get it done. I wired them up and wanted to see what it would do with the gain up about 3/4.
