westvan_dude
Hey Guys, Looking for a vented sub box design for the single Beyond Audio Inhuman 12" sub I have lying around. No restrictions on box size, etc. It'll be built-in as part of the workbench in my workshop of 1000sq.ft. Ideally 3-12 cubic feet in size (or more) and big-azz rectangular port. Unfortunately I don't have thiele parameters for it. Dual 2ohm. As you may know Beyond Audio isn't around anymore. So all I can do is tune the box and hope for the best. If you have some design software and can slap in some simple numbers for me would be mucho appreciated or if you own this sub and have the specs on it please post up. It'll be powered by a single 500wrms amp for now and has to hit real low. Not going sealed though. Here's an 18" version of the sub: My 12" is shown in this pic on the very right facing into that old sealed box I had in my F150. Forevrbumpn
That or a transmission line or horn. It will be hard to get any usable bass in that room We had a 6000sq ft assembly/warehouse at this shop I worked at, and in the office we had a 18" we built with a 12-14hz Fs, and the 18 was in a sealed box about 8cf,- In the office, doors closed, the whole warehouse would rattle, all corners, and the bass carried very well through the warehouse, yet in the office, it was just plain musical I have a ritual called "terminator". I crouch in the shower in the "naked terminator" pose. With eyes closed I crouch for a minute and visualize either Arnie or the guy from the 2nd movie. I then start to hum the T2 theme. Slowly I rise to a standing position and open my eyes. It helps me get through my day. The only problem is if the shower curtain sticks to my terminator leg. It sorta ruins the fantasy. Ben Building
What about a big transmission line? Also, if you wanted, you could measure the parameters on that sub yourself.
Ben Building
You're not going to have the benefit of cabin gain in such a large space. So, you might want to think about building that box so that it fires into the opposite corner than you're going to be listening to it from. If you had a small closet or something to build it into, that would be ideal.

If you had a small closet or something to build it into, that would be ideal. Ok, there's a small bathroom opposite the work area so could be built into an enclosure on top of that. Know what your saying as the bass will concentrate in the opposite corner. Not looking to shake the whole building, just nice solid deep bass. How do I measure the sub's parameters? I've seen devices that hookup to your usb port to measure it and do a sweep but $$$. ----------- Found some good info here: http://www.planet10-hifi.com/boxes.html and here: http://www.t-linespeakers.org/ http://www.teresaudio.com/haven/subs/subs.html using plastic or sono tube http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread....mp;pagenumber=
westvan_dude
So I googled a wavelength calculator: http://www.mcsquared.com/wavelength.htm Anyway, 48' wavelength comes from 23.5hz. So in effect the TL design of the bose wave cannon (using 12' 12" diameter tube for a 12" sub) is basically a 1/4wavelength TL right? 48' divided by 4. I'm going to hang this sucker from the ceiling. I have enough ceiling height to have it stand up but rather not take any floor space. Should be cool when it's all done. Bought the 12' sonotube this morning. I'll probably coat the whole tube with fiberglass resin or resin/bodyfiller that I can almost spread with a brush. There's the other idea of mounting 1" foam inside the tube to dampen it. Pic shown here: http://i24.tinypic.com/15x1x8j.jpg and the thread showing build progress of a sonotube subwoofer (but not TL design) here: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=911179 Another interesting article: http://www.hometheatermag.com/gearworks/10...sub/index1.html TL sonotube project
