Box help for 2 13" W7's

Recommended Posts

Looking for a box design for 2 13" W7's as said in title.

I'm confused because on the SQ aspect I was thinking sealed. Would these do alright in a ported box?

I really want to get the most out of them from the box design and use it for daily, and if I decide to compete use it for SPL burps and what not.

So if you have anytime could you help me out on what it should be tund to or just post a like to one that you could make real quick that would be great also.

For the amp part I'm thinking on a RF 2001BD.

tune it about 40-45 hz if you want to mix daily with comp design.

Would they sound clean that high? Ported be alright? Just probally need good comps to keep up if its tuned that high?

Tuning that high just means that your lows arent gonna be that great.  Which isnt too good for daily.  45 isnt that high, but it basically means your trying to split a line between two entirely different things.  If you want to do both, I'd go with swappable ports, one around 30-33 and one at like 55-60 or so.  And yea I'd go with a ported box.  The sub itself uses less excursion to produce more, so in a properly designed box its better for the sub too.

A couple links to some box builds:

Tahoe Box 1, Tahoe Box 2, Nissan Titan, VW GTI,

Mini-Bump, Hummer H2, Ford F-150

My own car builds (current setup --- under construction):

Overall Thread, Kickpods, Dash, Back Doors

Subwoofer Wall

40-45hz is pretty high for a 13w7. That subs wants to play best at 35-30hz, and you would get alot better sound quality to. But if you want to do burps to, maybe a removeable port, say spl 60hz, and daily/sq 35-30hz. Also, it depends on your car ALOT. if you tune the box to your cars accoustics, you will see better gains. A compact car, say Civic hatch  you may want to SQ port it at 30-35hz, and SPL port at about 60-70ish hz, basically about a whole octave higher than Daily. Anything in the middle you basically start to see dips in freq response, due to standing waves

I have a ritual called "terminator". I crouch in the shower in the "naked terminator" pose. With eyes closed I crouch for a minute and visualize either Arnie or the guy from the 2nd movie. I then start to hum the T2 theme. Slowly I rise to a standing position and open my eyes. It helps me get through my day. The only problem is if the shower curtain sticks to my terminator leg. It sorta ruins the fantasy.

does that mean for like a wall, its good to tune it a lil higher. my wall is tuned to 42 hz and it still gets the lows really well.

Well, there is alot of math, in making #'s. A wall can produce lows good, but will meter higher on higher numbers. Basically if you have read my thread on Quarter wave box designs, that applies to in car accoustics as well. If you have a car that is about 9ft from front windshield, to about back windshield (hatch or suv) That vehicles peak resonances are about 32hz, and 64hz, and dips in the middle, because of standing waves, which would be about 48hz. So in this Mythical car, xover setting would be best at about 50hz low pass for SQ, or 50HP for SPL . That is best for metering. But in car freq response wouldnt sound that bad, and even if HP at 50hz for a SPL set up, transfer function alows the car to replicate freqs all the way down to subsonic frequencies. Reason why 32hz, and 64hz, is because the time it takes for a 64hz wave to go back and forth twice, (1/4 wave) it IS in phase with the 32hz sound wave. Same pretty much goes for any frequency up to about I believe it is 320hz or so, where the human ears lose track of this.

Just some good thoughts there  ;-)
