fukas
Awhile back when I came into a little extra spending money I figured I'd put some audio equipment in my 1997 Chevy Lumina LTZ. At the time I didn't want to spend too much so I went to a local Car Toys to get my head unit installed that a friend gave me. It's not a bad head unit (jvc kd avx33). While I was there I got to browsing and I ended up buying a 12" JVC Sub with a cheap non ported box (yeah one sub lol). The sub is rated at 250rms and I went out and got a sony amp that pushes 250rms and wired it all up. I ran an 8g street wires cable through the firewall ( I found this the most difficult ) and all the way back into the trunk, where I added a short 2ft ground. Somehow or another I ended up busting the fuse inside the fuse holder that came with my 8g cable and I didn't put it on and I've been running the system at its max for awhile now without any issues... but I can't help but wonder what significance the fuse has and whether or not I should run out and get another. On another note I love your guys' forum it seems like a greet community and all of you who post there systems around the forums have really good setups. I hope I can surpass my 1x 12" someday and become a future GP!! Quote 96 Ford Escort LX SPT
camino_1to3
A fuse serves as a protectorent for your amplifier, and car, if there is a surge in your wire, or another problem, the fuse blows and the connection is cut off. This stops the power going to your amp, in turn, saving you alot of cash. finkster
a fuse is better than having your car burned to the ground. Spend the 5 dollars and 5 minutes of your time to put one in....welcome to the forums by the way Quote DAT 4125------>RE XXX comps active Eclipse cd7000 I serve drunks for a living

camino_1to3
Btw you should rename this "Fuse question" and repost in the electrical-battery-alternator-wiring section of 'Equipment' Quote Team T3 Audio Team Sundown Audio Team O.B.M Operation Beast Mode "Believe half of what you see and none of what you hear" wigglez that was a bit over the top, i dont want to invison dw giving any young lady a "cream pie" let alone "throat babies". creyc
Also you mentioned running the wire through the firewall, did you be sure to use a grommet there around the wire? If not, vibrations from the car combined with the sharp edges of the sheet metal will cut through the power wires insulation and ground your power wire to your chassis for you. At which time, the fuse would open and save your car from a potential meltdown. 1. make sure you put the fuse in 2. always use a grommet when passing through the firewall or any compartment with sharp edges And welcome! fukas
Yeah I used the factory grommet poked a hole through it on the plus side I won't have this vehicle much longer so when I redo the system I'll be sure to add a fuse!
