AI James
voltage going to the RCA's you dont want 12 14 and 16 volt preamp voltage, youll fry near any amp with that preamp voltage Edited March 3, 2009 by James
Cr@sh
"Pre-amp" is refering to your input, meaning "Before the amp" or pre-amp. some amps can accept up to 15volts though most will never see that unless have a good line driver. Numbers will change when you distribute your input leads to several amps as well. Edited March 3, 2009 by Cr@sh Quote My old install at cardomain, never finished! Zade08
Holy shit. I hope you research before you start sticking stuff together. Preamp is the voltage in the rcas that run from the deck to the amp. Your thinking of dc voltage coming from the batteries. Most head units have a 2v preout. Others have a 3, 4, 5, and even 6 volt preout. That just means that your amps will run cleaner as your sending more of a signal to it and this will allow you to adjust your gain better. 12v and 14v sytems are what people run to get more power out of there amps. Your normal daily driver is a 12 volt system. You can achieve 14 or 16 volt systems by buying 14 or 16 votl batteries. If you run a 16 volt battery in a daily driver you can fry all of your eolectronics if you dont have it isolated to the trunk and amps only. Thats not true either, If your headunit is cheap garbage and is sending a distorted signal then 2volt or 100volts isn't going to make it cleaner. Higher voltage helps push the signal along the the rca's and the higher the better when dealing with distrubuting it or longer lengths. Quote My old install at cardomain, never finished! sactownstang
18V Thats best 4 that amp. Anything over 14 is better but 17.2-17.9 Good Luck! Edited March 4, 2009 by sactownstang

Guest
no, 14v and 16v on those amps means how much power it can accept from the battery. if you do that w/o knowing what your doing you will fry your whole car electrical, or damn near risk it blowing. preamp rca's sends the music signal from your music source (headunit/dvd player etc) to your amp input. that, in turn is amplified by the.... ampflifier, which is powered by your car's charging system. then the amplifier outputs that amplified signal to your speakers. philip
preamp voltage = rca in your question: 14v vs. 16v. = the power wire that goes to the amp= battery positive/ constant
