Why More Batteries Won't Stop Your Lights Dimming...

Recommended Posts

if i had a battery that sat at only 12.2v, i would be concerned it was damaged.....12.6-12.8 is normal and 13-13.2 is outstanding in my experience.

also, i too have seen people solve headlight dimming by adding batteries, it really depends on how much power you are drawing, of course everyone wont experience the same thing, especially in the car audio world

.....for me though, i have ZERO headlight dim at full power, HID's FTW :)

I'm with steve on this one, HIDs are gettin ordered in april, Happy Birthday to ME!

in some cases adding a battery does help.

ex you have a stock battery and a stock amp. using a sundown 3000d.

of course you will have mad voltage drop, maybe 11v(just a rough example)

then you add a big kinetik hc3800 in the back. that will definitely help in the voltage drop(as long as the battery is still charged) may be 12.5v(again just a rough example).

you know what i mean?

That's the main reason I got mine that and the fact that they are much better for these twisty-turny deer-ridden backroads here :)

Oh yeah it'll help for sure, if you're dropping below 12v then batteries will help.

But you'll still be dimming because you're dropping below the 14.4v of your alt anyway :)

As I said somewhere above, open-circuit voltage is about 2.15v/cell or 12.9v for a 12v battery. It just drops as soon as you load it :)

AGMs can be a little different, they have stonger acid IIRC which mixes things up a bit.

Well how do you figure out how much amperage the amp is pulling then? I would imagine its less than the in-line fuse size you are using (duh) so if I've got 1 amp drawing around 50 or 60 amps tops, I can't justify putting a battery in the back anyhow.

I guess I should try to find a beefier alternator or does everyone use modded ones now?
