Did I mention that I've also used the Level 4's in my car and would take a Type R over it anyday.

Ive owned both and would take a Level 4 over a Type-R anyday...

Sorry but I don't completely agree with you guys on the DC>Alpine theory.

The woofer at hand is the DC level 3.

Sound Quality

Alpine Type X>DC level 3

SPL

Alpine Type R>DC level 3

I will agree on the higher end DC driver's being better for spl than the Alpine subs, but the Type X is a far superior sound quality sub than those in the DC lineup. This is coming from a person that has actually heard both the DC level 3's and the Alpine Type X's. Spl wise the Type R may even be a challenge for the DC level 4. Those who have used the Type R's like myself know exactly what I'm talking about. Did I mention that I've also used the Level 4's in my car and would take a Type R over it anyday.

On another note the reason you can't call up Alpine and talk to the owner is because it's a multibillion dollar corperation. I'm sure that Rusty would love to have a fraction of the customers that Alpine has. So instead you get people at Alpine that are making minimum wage answering the phones who really don't give a shit about you in the first place. DC is different and I'll give them that. Rusty is a hell of a guy when it comes to answering the phones and talking to you about his product or whatever it is that you want to talk to him about.

I am speaking about all this from experiece unlike some that just down something cause it's cool to like a certain brand.

You cant even compare a Type-R to a Level 4...

my Level 4s had great response and sounded great

my Type-R was ehh.. didnt care for the sound it had.. I had it in 3 diff boxes still didnt care for its sound.. but it gets descently loud jus doesnt sound great

yeah the alpine does exactly what it was designed to do- take a few hundred watts and move some air.

as far as SQ the R is almost as bad as the squares, and the lvl 3 has much more potential, just takes a bit more power :)

It's no surprise with the DC logos in your sig.

Might I add to each his own, and I was just giving my opinion on the matter since that's what the topic discussion was about.

Myself, sound quality comes second to spl. That's why I would prefer a Type R over either the DC Level 3 or 4 cause I've metered louder with the R's than two Level 4's with Level 5 coils.

Care to make a bet? I guarantee I can get a Type R 15 louder off 1500 watts than you can get your Level 4XL 18 off of 3000 in yours. :o:o:o

Unless you can burp over a 148 with your 18 and 4K I'll still be beating you with a R 15 and only a tiny 1500 watts.
