ChevyBoy
update. my amp wouldnt shut off till i pulled the - off the battery. when doing so, i seen that the battery has corrosion on it? how? it was full on contact, and no moisture on it. wtf is going on? also, you hear the "ticking" noise in my vid from the amp. is that the relay you guys are talking about? pix and a vid for ya http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n153/di...oy/IMG_0149.jpg http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n153/di...oy/IMG_0149.jpg http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n153/di...oy/IMG_0149.jpg

Try swapping that out and see if it fixes your problem. If that battery is dead, almost anything you touch the remote wire to will turn the amp on (pos, neg, chassis, etc...). Which is why it requires a switch to eliminate anything that could potentially turn it on. Need an install? Hit me up.[email protected]Got car audio questions? ChevyBoy
yea im gonna rip it out, but what would cause that terminal to corrode?
Neo_frog
yea im gonna rip it out, but what would cause that terminal to corrode? Well I'm assuming it's a wet cell? I think it's called galvanic corrosion? Basically when the battery is being used it releases small amounts of hydrogen gas through the vent cap and eats up the terminals. Not sure of the exact process. I've also seen instances on our fire pump system at work where one of the batteries dies in the bank and "pops" a terminal just destroying it and corroding beyond repair. Our thoughts were overvoltage since some cells were shot, but still being charged, but we're no experts. We just replace them. (Most likely not what happened to you.) Actually, try just cleaning the terminals off, reconnecting them and spreading some of that dielectric gel or vaseline over the terminals so you get an air tight seal. That might just fix it. EDIT: Watch your problem come back. Need an install? Hit me up.[email protected]Got car audio questions? The Performer
So you say you do hear a clicking coming from the amp? Yes that is a relay making that sound. For your problem to migrate from being able to cut off with the switch to now only being able to cut off when the ground is disconnected would even further my suspicion of a relay. Battery sound's a little too un believable to cause this problem. I want to hear more info on what's going on at the amp before I consider the battery. Give us more details of whats going on at the amp with the clicking wise and depending on what that is I'd say a relay swap on the amp circuit board might be in order. CERTIFIED BITCHES!!! Not being new at something doesn't mean anything. Just because a prostitute isn't new at what she does, doesn't change the fact that she still 'sucks' Click to see my build! If you've read the entire thread, when he flips his switch, the amp turns off. There's no problems with the relay (unless he has more than one problem now). His battery may not be dead. I say just clean the terminals and re-establish a good connection since a bad one is a potential source of the "clicking". Need an install? Hit me up.[email protected]Got car audio questions?
