A few weeks ago I got my first pair of subs - two Soundstream 12's @ 700w RMS. These crank hard enough one of the guys at the shop installing them said they sound just like his 18. Later on I ended up looking around for some prices on 18's and was surprised to come across this for $400NZD http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...n-209980985.htm

Looks like one of them RRP is $2000NZD http://www.rapidradio.co.nz/Product-Catalo...p;ProductId=631

Says it hits 148.9db and that price makes me real keen but can't decide if it's worth the hassle of replacing the 12's and upgrading the amp/additional batteries etc to handle it. Any ideas?

For that price, you could get an audioque hdc3 18 atually even cheaper. I have the 15" version and it kills.

Hmm. NZ$400 shipped.... Not sure of any conversions? is that about the same as $400 US? the biggest problem I would see vs getting something better such as DC or Fi or audioque as will probably/has been mentioned is this isn't the US... Shipping would be killer im sure for overseas... im sure someone like charger could chime in?

Are you from New Zealand influx?

NZ$400 = USD$200

Shipping would be in New Zealand, not US.

There was a competition held here where a shop got a whole lot of these subs in and sold them for $250NZ, most people that entered just sold them on trademe (NZ Ebay equivalent) instead of using them in the competition.

They get reasonably loud, go ok off like 1500w.

The guy that won the competition did 151.8 or something with 1 of these but he had approximately 10000wrms up its arse and it got real hot real fast.

Still a decent sub for the money.

Yer that's why I put NZ as to not get the price mistaken for USD. Is it a strictly SPL sub or is there some quality in it too?

I was just curious to see what 18's go for, didn't expect to find one that cheap though.. My 12's are supposedly doing around 132db at an estimate, so you could see why I'm interested in that 18.
