brsteinbach
Like the title says is it bad to tune below the f/s on a sub. For example a Fi Q 12" It says 27hz. I want lows so I was going to tune to 26 hz in a 3 cubic foot box. Would this hurt the sub? Thank you. Torres
1 hz wont make an audible difference. if you're scared of hurting the sub i'd just tune it to 27 hz
wL<3bass
Too be honest....tuning that low is kind of a waste....I thought "Man tuning low is really gonna play the LOW LOWS" its really didn't make a whole lot of difference at all. Neo_frog
Fs is just the resonant frequency of the driver. The air pressure that develops in the enclosure acts as a "shock absorber" for the suspension of that driver. Tuning below the FS will have it act as if it is not in a box at all. It will play, but may become damaged from over excusion. Especially if you are overpowering it. Only 1-2hZ under won't be a problem. There are too many factors to tell you for sure though. Cabin resonance, box depth, etc... You should be fine. Hell, why not just tune it to the recommended 28hZ? Quote Need an install? Hit me up.[email protected]Got car audio questions? Hugh G. Rection
Fs is just the resonant frequency of the driver. but with the fs of the sub being a "free air" resonance measurement, it really serves no purpose at all once the woofer is installed in an enclosure. Neo_frog
but with the fs of the sub being a "free air" resonance measurement, it really serves no purpose at all once the woofer is installed in an enclosure. Actually a lower Fs generally means a sub will be better with low frequency reproduction. (Not always the case) Yes it is free-air resonance, simply stated, it is the point at which the weight of the moving parts of the speaker becomes balanced with the force of the speaker suspension when in motion. But saying it has NOTHING to do with the response after in an enclosure is wrong. There's too many factors to give an actual 100% correct answer to the OP. Quote Need an install?
