Dual Oe Alt's

I have a spare OE alt for my car, I was wondering if it would be feasible to use both alts in my car if/when my system goes beyond the coverage of the one alt (I shouldn't be anywhere near there yet). Anyone else try this before? How would it be done?

you can do it. someone correct me if I am wrong, but splice and solder in a new plug with longer wires that go to the mounting point of the second alternator, get a longer belt and do it. It has been done before.

edit....when i said a new plug, i meant a second plug.

If it's a one wire plug, you could always just run the wiring into the car with a switch to a 12 volt constant. that plug is just to tell the alternator to turn on when the car starts. But you could dedicate that second alternator specifically to the system and only turn the alternator on when you are bumpin, but how often are you not, really lol. Anyways, go for it, get some pics up and let us know how it works out!

you can also use an overdrive pulley to up the speed at which the alternator spins. This will give you a bit better output at idle speeds.

You can use two OE alts, just make sure that if you y together the two plugs, that the alternaor turn on circuit is capable of handling double the draw. On some vehicles you might have to turn it on with a different circuit. PM me with the make model year if you want to know how to wire it.
