I can't vote, and I havn't read much at all of this thread so this is just a general reply. So as a 17 year old, I am truly scared of liberals.

I plan to go to college and grad school and pursue a good career(dentist hopefully). Why I should have to pay for slack people who didn't work very hard throughout school and now work at mcdonalds, I don't understand??

I am a Christian and think that abortion is horrible. If women need control over their bodies I say they shoulda had control in the first place and not had sex. They had a CHOICE??

The military, protects us, granted, we are not in a war now where we need technology, so its easy to say, hey cut the F22 Raptor from production, it costs 135M a piece. But hey, when Korea or God knows where starts a war and we have an arsenal of old planes that can't give us air superiority because the only things we have are only good for dropping bombs on "Un SAM'd" insurgents, WE ARE FUCKED. But hey, don't forget, we will have a bunchve wind turbines and solar pannels and all sorts of green energy.

When my granddad who served this country in the war, and has health problems and needs surgery, and he doesn't get it because hes old and there's a younger guy who needs it, something is messed up.

My parents are republicans, but I am not one of those kids who doesn't care or doesn't research on politics and just says they are republican or democrat because their parents are...like people who say they love team X but don't know any players on the entire team.

It's not our country anymore. Its been taken over by every other country there is, and they live among us and we bow to them. They come from south of the border, and from other countrys abroad as well. They get better treatment than every US Citizen there is other than the coverment (Goverment). OBAMA will not be President for 4 years he will become a dictator and finsh running this country in the ground.

There are view such as abortion that I do not agree with when it comes to Obama just like any other republican. Other things are that he thinks he will unite people and bring this country together, he is only going to tear it up even more. He is not going to change anything for the good His right hand man, Joe Biden even said he will be tested. His stimulus plan is a joke and only helps people like Barney Frank from going to jail, for now anyway. To put this country in more debt was the stupidest thing he could have done. He should have given it time to let the country level itself out. With that said, you can't really blame him for the country tanking and you can't blame the republicans either. Blame Bill Clinton for that, allowing anyone to buy a house. Hey if you make $20,000 you can still get a $400,000 house. Pay $700 a month for 3 years then the balloon payments kick in and your now paying $4,000 a month. "Gee I can't afford my house, well you should have half a brain to know you can't afford a $400,000 house on a $20,000 year salary and having to raise 2 kids at the same time. Then you go out and lease a $50,000 SUV that you know you can't afford but have to look good for the new community you are living in. Then there is the 52 inch Plasma TV so when you have a house party, your family room looks good. THEN you don't want to cut your own lawn cause you want to look like you are wealthy, so you hire a landscaper at $150 to cut your grass, trim the hedges.

People see they can't afford this anymore and start losing jobs, some own a business and they lose that. Then it is a domino effect and everything starts to crumble. Blame yourself Americans for not being wise enough to know you cannot afford something. Do not buy something you cannot afford. Buy a 14 inch TV instead. If your paying $900 a month for rent because it's a GREAT apartment, find a $600 NICE apartment instead. Do not go to the Casino when you have kids to feed. I see it at foxwoods all the time, parents are gambling and 10 year old kids are running around by themselves. All these people in the end blame the country and most of the time blame the republicans, such as George W. Bush, because they have nothing and are getting no help. MOST of these people are liberals.

So let the battle begin, say what you want, I do not get offended and could care less. I had cancer 2 times already so if that didn't kill me, none of you will.

I'm not gonna read all of what you said, but your title could be applied both ways, republican/democrat...I can't stand politics at all, there are snakes and scum on both sides of the aisle as well as those that mean well but at the end of the day I can't fully agree with either side on everything so I remain neutral.

This thread is so funny!!!!! Where do I start? Well I don't pretend to have all the answers and so I cannot say that a lot of things that seem stupid in politic really are or are not. Many things start out as a good idea and get distorted and as soon as it looks bad in politics they blame the original person who tried to pass it. So let's put this into perspective based on the only section I have expertise which is Real Estate and home loans. I noticed a lot of people blame Bill Clinton for the current mess. What Bill did was to release a lot of restrictions on the Secondary market which is a fancy term for a place to sell loans in bulk. We are talking about Billion dollar bulks of loans sold monthly to hedge funds and insurance companies. These restrictions were released based on the strength of the current ratings agencies Standard and Poors, Moody's etc. These companies have been around for centuries and I bet you if I was president I would trust them too. But the issue is not Bill, just a lot of people can't think very far back. Ronald Reagan (a Republican) was the person who actually started all of this but again not to ruin the economy, he had a great ideal. The american dream is homeownership. Now we all know at this time everyone does not deserve to own a home, period. At the time though it sounded good and it was good until like so many other things it was not.

The ratings agencies, in an effort to make more money, started calling what is considered "D" grade paper (loans for people who have not so good credit) "AAA" paper if they made 6 months mortgage payments on time. This equals billions of dollars in increased value, hence the run up in Real estate values because every loan is getting bought at a ridiculous price so any good business person is going to do more loans! To make a stereo reference it's like saying a Sony amp is good because it now has RE guts! Sounds retarded but that is exactly what happened. It was all over the news just before the fall and there was even talk of shutting the agencies down.

Now with this in mind you can start to see how this happened, I am paying AAA prices for D grade product which only works until it doesn't. When prices started to fall most people bought only as an investment and no longer feel the need to stay in the home. They let it go, the neighbor does the same prices fall etc. In addition the buyers (insurance, 401ks etc) feel burned and do not want to buy the new paper because its rating may not be true. This is why lending has stopped and will stop until we reach the bottom of the market. I mean really would you loan me 100 bucks if you new at best you might get back 45 in 9 months?

I agree that Bush was an idiot and wasted a lot of necessary money we needed on pretty much every program he created but HE was the one who passed TARP! Obama just has to deal with it and I have seen a great many mistakes so far at least in the real estate arena but it is all based on the effort to try to mend what is broken. My official opinion is to let the banks go, use the extra money to fund unemployment for those who cannot find work and complete government projects like road repairs to generate jobs and give us a better country.

Don't believe me though, look it up and you will see all that I am saying is true because it is the only job I have every had. I knew something was wrong with the system in 1997 when I first started because I dropped off a bulk of loans to an investor and they literraly told me all the loans were terrible and they did not want to buy them. When I asked why he actually told me that the credit was too good and the people would pay on time so they can't make any money. This was well BEFORE the current nightmare.........hmmmmmmm

Well said mhuck. Although I may not have first hand experience as you do with real estate etc, I do have a good knowledge on the subject (at least I think I do); I do agree 100% with what you said. Another thing to throw in there was the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act of 1999 also had a lot to do with the crisis, simply because (for example) Bank of America was now able to do it all. Hell, they even got so big that they were told that they can’t buy any more banks.

One thing that I do want to point out though is that I am a liberal, and I disliked Bush in every aspect, BUT I do agree that Tarp was necessary. Yes, it was formed by Reps and Bernanke, but I trust Bernanke over anything/anyone else did during that time. I believe it was a way to stop the bleeding. Was/Is it unpopular? Yes, but most people do not fully understand that the Great Depression was a form of what happened here. Banks failed, no FDIC, all money disappeared, no credit, everything stopped.

If the banks failed the FDIC could not have had enough money to back up the deposits, ie a mass panic throughout the country at all banking branches. Then they disappear, then jobs disappear, then the government would have needed some sort of bailout probably 4-5 times that of Tarp, just for the country to stay afloat. But in the end this is all speculation as no one truly knows what would have happened, this is just an educated economist’s guess.

A little Diplomacy? Standing by while Russia goes on full attack into Georgia, destroying cities and killing people, basically because Georgia refuses to bow down to Putin. Yet this is okay, for the sake of a little diplomacy? We have bombed countries for less than this before.... Now, Iran and North Korea... North Korea put on a good little show a while back and let cameras in to show they were neutralizing their plutonium and Uranium stores.... Yet if you remember, the cameras got kicked out before it was all finished. If they have the stuff stored properly, and they refuse to prove that they are "just" using it to make nuclear power plants a reality, what makes you think they dont have the actual nukes ready to fire. Remember , they were allies with China for a very long time, and they are still on pretty good terms with them to this day. I would think Nukes are a damn good possibility, Yet, nobody in North Korea is trying to invade a little country one-twentieth its size .... yet we still find the need to toss around Kim Jong il's name like he is the next Hitler or something.... so far, he is just a wackadoo that wears odd clothes and is a die hard last man standing for his cause ...besides The leaders of Cuba... Communism is dead, and North Korea is still , most likely, harboring nukes. I cant see any difference in him and the more dangerous, power hungry leader of a much more powerful nation that wants to be a full blown dictator. They both fall into the same basket in my eyes. If you show diplomacy to one, why not both? so no, W. never shook the dear leader's hand, but he should have if he was okay with Putin.

Then we have Iran... I am a little weak here, I will admit, so based on what sketchy bits I have seen in the news lately, The president of Iran is scum. No argument there, but once again, They have nuclear capability, and hell, we invaded Iraq for less than that, didn't we? ( WMDs anyone? ) So tell me what is the difference here than say, Sadam? Or Putin? Putin is killing off people, shutting down newspapers and television stations that speak out against him. Iran's president is now demanding we apologize for misleading the world about him and his country... Then they went and launched a satellite which many think, may be a sign of " nuclear ambitions " ..... and then there is this guy popping off at the mouth about Israel being Racists.... He is a pretty fucked up guy, no doubt.... but he is willing to extend the olive branch and talk to the U.S. .....and is he really that much different that Putin? But since Putin has nukes, oh, and we share a space station with him , we gotta keep it cool? whatever man. If you are gonna be cool with one nuke owner, you gotta be cool with all of them. That is how you keep the uranium from being enriched into bomb ingredients, and that is how you show the world that if we got them, we are okay with someone else having them too.....

I kind od agree with part of what you say here. We are a country of imports and very few exports. This REALLY need to change. We need to have our troops guarding our borders, we need to bring our factories back to US soil ( even if it means... wait for it.... a " democrat " says it .... Lower the corporate tax rate !!! ) and get the unemployed americans back to making a living off of working and spending money on american made goods.... The irony ( well, technically , hipocracy ) here is, I do drive a toyota, and most of the electronics I own were built overseas...And yes, immigrants and foreign prsioners get better social services than most americn born citizens. Not gonna bash you but you need to do some research. Most planes are in service for 20 plus years so the arsenal we have now will protect us for decades, the abortion thing is an opinion and I can respect the opinion but what if you don't marry till 35? Still gonna be a virgin? Doubt it.

Your grandad's situation is unfortunate but no one with insurance in this country is denied an elective procedure so his ailment must include waiting on a donor list. If that is true it is terrible but understandable. If he just needed a surgury no doctor would say no to the money.
