Ok, so I got the new car today, 2000 tahoe. This is a TEMPORARY sub, don't flame me for it. It was the first sub I ever had, as you can tell by the fact that I tried to fix the cracked cone with caulk.

And yes, I know I'm using particle board. It's only temporary. But I still tried to do everything the right way on it. If anything looks off in the process, let me know.

Anyway, I want to say thanks to forvrbumpn for his t line tutorial. That's how this box came about. The T line is 2 feet tall, 4 wide, and 7" deep. 77 inches of port. I forget exactly how long the line was, i think it's around 7.6 feet. Tuned to 38 hz, I'll boost it there to create an "artificial Fs." The Fs of the sub is 26, which is longer than I wanted to go.

The car:

The plans:

all cuts were done with a circle saw  , those are looong cuts for that, no fun

dscn1198ga9.jpg

I ordered the $20 Harbor Freight nail gun/stapler, damn this thing rocks. Building boxes was never so easy

dscn1201aq5.jpg

^^ rounded port edges

45'ed port corners. used gorilla glue to expand/seal. then caulked

dscn1206op5.jpg

Gorilla Glued top on, again, to seal, seeing as i can't get in there with a caulk gun.

My ghetto circle jig.

More pics to come, I have to go cut out the port now, and flush rout some more edges. I don't think I'm going to carpet it, because hopefully its only temporary. But I'll probably end up doing it. Back soon with more pics.

Well, somehow, with only 200 watts (i ran wiring from my brothers amp into my car) this sub actually sounds damn good. The amp's a lower line kenwood and doesnt have a bass boost, so i wasnt able to really mess around with tuning at all. That and the neighbor came over because it woke her up....

It doesn't hit the lows as well as I wanted it to, I think that's because the box is tuned to 38 hz. maybe a lower freq bass boost will wake it up a little, or some polyfill. I'll do some more testing tomorrow, but heres a pic and a quick (but dark) video.

Finished! Rounded all the corners, installed the last 45 degree angle, and then sanded all the corners.

Yea, it's not quite hitting as low as i wanted. I'm going to try some polyfill. Even though I'm rebuilding the box later on with real MDF for a different sub, this might end up in the home theater...If I can get it tuned right it should work out. Especially cause my dad wants to spend like no money on the HT setup.

Here's a daylight vid. You can tell its hitting pretty hard by the fact that the camera moves when the bass hits, but you can also tell that its starting to roll off when it hits the lower note.

K, another update. Seeing as I can't wire up my RF yet, I just patched into my stock sub wires after ripping that lil 8" out, and this thing still puts out some pretty good bass. This sub used to completely suck in a sealed enclosure, and now it somehow shows some light.

Lil bit of mirror vibration, but thats all i can get out of 50 watts haha

I was just reading your "plans" on the side on that pic w/ the drawing...

did you print out what Forevrbmpn had said? looks very close to his quotes... or did HE cut & past it from elsewhere...<_<

Not that that's so bad, but if it's his, just like +1 for him to be writing that good of a tutorial. It def opened my eyes to this type of enclosure.

No that's his notes don't worry. This enclosure type is definately the way to go if you have the room. This is as loud as my D6 was off 550 watts, and it was only powered at 170. Now it's off even less power and its still alright. I'll be doing an "official" buildup with a full install soon with a different sub in a better designed line.
