Breaking In Subwoofers

I couldnt find anywhere else the specific time of how long or how to properly break in subwoofers. I broke in my first pair of 12's without knowing it. Now i need to know how long to run them at what volume with how much gain before i can bump again. I have 2 12 alpine type e's. ya you may laugh but these things were the best investment i made for my car stereo. I got them cheap brand new when good guys were closing out and when i got it installed (not knowing anything about car stereos) i had it powered by a 4 channel! so of course they were WAY underpowered and did not sound very good at all. they were very quiet! Until i finally got a mono block amp about a year later. THEN i realized the potential of my subs. then i moved to 2 seperate monoblocks to power them. the alpine mrp m 500's to each sub. with the hopes of buying the type r's. I do not know why people hate on alpines. i have had friends that say. i have gone through 16 pairs of subwoofers while you have still had yours. I have now had my subwoofers almost 4 1/2 years! they havnt ever sounded better than they do now. i ordered the type r's and want to know how to break them in PROPERLY so i can get the long lasting pleasure of my subs. so how do i properly break in 2 12 alpine type r's....... and if it makes any difference my friend just got 2 8" kicker L7's for his single cab truck. how long should he break his in?!

its kinda just play them light til the suspenison loosens up. are you planning on using the same amps on the type rs?

You'll get varying opinions. Some say break in requires no special treatment, others will live and die by it.

Me peronally, I'm kinda in between. As long as you don't go full tilt for extended periods of time, I say all should be good. Several people on here are blasting away right out of the box, but I'd rather play on the safe side.

EDIT:Try running a search on it. There was a thread on here about this not that long ago.

if u dont know alot about car audio id say put each m 500 gain about 2/3 up and dont go over about half volume for about 2 weeks. u will notice it seems to get a little louder though this time.

depends on what type of sub i have.

but with a type r i would give it about 3/4 rated rms power for a few days and then it would be game on for full power.

put each m 500 gain about 2/3 up time.

never set the knobs randomly like that w/o using a multimeter or oscilloscope

If you have the system tuned properly, you can listen to them full volume right out of the box. In most cases, the "breaking in" will come in the form of more output at the same volume over time.
