T4k In Protect

Recommended Posts

I was driving home today, listening to my radio really low (8/40), and my subs just cut out. I turn off the radio, turn it back on, and nothing. I get home and check the back of the wall, and i see the protect light is on. Also I am hearing a really quick ticking sound. I know it could be dozens on things that causes one to go into protect, does anyone have a clue, or experienced a similar problem to this? Any help would be appreciated.

Check your fuseholders for melting... battery's charged and alts working?

Batteries and alt are in working order. I will check it out a little better when it stops raining over here.

Unplug the subs from the output

check the pos gnd and remote on the amp make sure all look normal and tight aswell as usual 12.6V or something close

is protect coming on still? If it is the amp has a fault, If not chek the subs... Wires and coils...

I will check that out, Thanks. Hopefully it will stop raining some time tonight so I can check. If not I dont work until 4 tomorrow, so I will check it then.

Alight, extreme weirdness going on. I take off the cover plate, and everything looks fine. I unhook the subs check their impedence (1.8 ohms) and set them aside. Check voltage at the amp key off 12.29 key on 14.3. Same at the batteries. Still going in to protect. I take out the fuse to check it, it's fine. Put it back in, turn the amp on again...and it works. Hook the subs up, and it is still working. only thing that didn't look right is my remote turn on was stretched pretty tight, so I pulled a little slack in that took it around the block...beat the hell out of it and its working fine. BTW, the protect light was flashing last night, not sure if that's different from a plain solid protect light, but yeah...im going to keep an eye on it and see if it does this again.

I have an a6450 that likes to flash into protect when it gets hot.... my reference 475a Liked to as well from time to time after long periods of driving. Most would have to exceed 80C though in order for that to happen. glad everything worked out find for you as well.
