white4d96 Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 Don't go by peak power. Look at RMS power; it's more accurate, and the rated device can actually take that power for more than .005 seconds. IIRC SPL subs are build to tighter tolerances and don't perform as well on music; they are one-note wonders. Correct me if I'm wrong. Also IIRC flat-wind coil allows better cooling of the coil and lets the sub take more power than with a regular coil. The hyper pole also helps with cooling. I have never worked with Fi subs so don't go by my opinion alone, but I do know that on this forum, a lot of people buy their subs 'fully loaded'-with all the options. I am assuming this makes for a sub that can take more power more reliably. Quote Too many projects, too little time...
kirill007 Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 (edited) There is no peak power, but with all the options, except the SPL version(never take SPL if you want to listen to music.) And if you know what you're doing you can run about 1600-1700W RMS to the Fi BL. Those options are for cooling.(= better power handling). Like ktowndriftking said never look at peak wattage, that means nothing. Edited May 31, 2009 by kirill007 Quote Thinking is the root of all problems... You ALWAYS get what you pay for.
CallMeTy Posted May 31, 2009 Author Report Posted May 31, 2009 ok cool. so if i choose cooling, should i still choose flatwind? kirill007 Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 Yeah if you want to put more then 1300-1400watts to it. Better to overdo cooling then don't do it enough.(or something like that.) Quote Thinking is the root of all problems... You ALWAYS get what you pay for.
