in an explorer port up is about the quietest configuration possible. You want port back or port to the side always. And itll also be louder without the sides of the box countouring the the vehicle to choke the air passing by

I have to disagree with you when it comes to a Sport (2 door explorer), sub up port up has been the loudest! I agree with you on it being louder without the sides though, but only if you run a sub up port back box. Sub up port box it works just fine!

My o3 Mountaineer same as explorer is Sub up port up.. port on drivers side also... and I really like it.

I am temporally running two boxes in my mountaineer now.

2 12's Subs up ports up drivers side

2 10's Subs up Port back

No cancellation at all like some people told me would happen... and it hits really hard, not painful yet though :)

2 door and 4 doors both function the same. Port up will not be the loudest firing direction. You might have had the loudest enclosure with the port firing up but if it were built the same way but firing backwards it would 100% be louder. You dont ever see SUVs in SPL running port up

not only that but with port up you have less effective port length before you need to bend the port which ist ideal.

ur mixing sub sizes, mixing enclosures volumes and mixing port firing directions. You're certainly getting some cancellation.

i had the same subs, same amps, and sub up port and sub up port up there wasnt much of an output difference. sub up port back was 40hz tuing and sub up port up was 34hz tuning, of the pair the sub up port up sounded better and got louder. 2 different styles of enclosure tho, sub up port back was 14 cu.ft. and sub up port up was 4 cu. ft. per 18"

sub up port up has done me good thus far. i could see in certain circumstances where port back would help, mostly it helped me with low power setups, once i got up to 3000 or so the audible difference wasnt there.
