siucsaluki11
Is there such a thing as too much bracin? Ive been toying around designing a box for when i can get my lvl 4 xl 15s (gunna be a bit i think (may have to just get one to replace my old 12s for the time being) and ive made a few different boxes. They all vary in size and tuning somewhat, but negligible differences. For bracing im thinkin 1" dowel rod. And in one of my designs, im convinced i could park one wheel of a car on this thing no problem, lol. But is this too much bracing? Will it effect the sound? It is all placed out of the way of the motor and the pole vent. Anyway, heres a pic of the one thats loaded with bracing. after bracing its 7 cubes at 33 (tuned right around there) Quote woman..cant live with em...cant shoot em...guess were all fucked You might be a Redneck if you use your leftover gutters for a speaker box port... Gotloud555
Damn! That's too much bracing. How big's that box with external dimension? It must be huge. Is that 2 15" or one? I might not affect the sub that much but you should test it out to see.
ALPINE408
As long as there is air space there is no such thing as over kill on bracing I would use allthread instead of wood would need less and much stronger Quote Have you ever had your woofers blown? LHatt
thats not enough, you need steel and double that Quote LHATT System: 2 mtx 4512's, 2 cubes each, tuned to 42hz http://www.youtube.com/user/angrymob7699
basshead4life
last person i saw on here that had a lot of bracing someone said "25 cubes before displacement and 8 after" and that's what i thought when i first seen this Quote Team S.M.D. Maritime Car Audio- (2) 18" SSA ZCON D1 - American Bass 500.1 - 60 ft of 3/0 -480 Ah of battery - (2) stock alternators (70 +90) - Kenwood Excelon x-794, 4v preouts car audio is just a LOT more complicated than "this amp does this power" or "this sub will be this loud". its like 2 + 2 = banana. 97maxima
damn you might as well double up the thickness of the enclosure to a inch and a half and use less bracing, thats kinda over kill Quote American Bass*DC Power
zfrerichs
i would use all threads instead of dowel rods and nothing wrong with some bracing as long as its not in the way or hitting anything Quote Roseville, CA
siucsaluki11
the box is 7 cubes after all that bracing. Even 1" wood dowel doesnt take up much space, all that bracing is i wanna say .5 cubes or less (actually, im sure its less) the box is 38*26*24 with a double baffle top iirc EDIT: 38*26*22.75 EDIT 2: Box is for 2 lvl 4 xl 15s Edited June 23, 2009 by siucsaluki11 Quote woman..cant live with em...cant shoot em...guess were all fucked You might be a Redneck if you use your leftover gutters for a speaker box port... Boon
Diminishing gain... half that bracing will barely gain you anything but will create turbulence in the box. Quote 10.x volts fo' life!
~digital~bass~
Having to much of something good doesnt always help. As with to much bracing and to much batteries. Quote Car Audio + Bodyboarding/Longboarding = LIFE!!!
